Who faces this problem? Why is design thinking a good approach?

Example:

Many students at our school throw away uneaten food because portions are too large or they don't like the menu choices. I think design thinking can help because we need to empathize with students (find out what they actually want to eat), brainstorm creative solutions (like customizable portion sizes or a voting system for menu items), prototype ideas (test them for a week), and iterate based on feedback.
