1. Question Ladder

A question ladder is an activity that can be used at the beginning, during the middle and at the end of a lesson. The point of the exercise is that it contains questions which should be accessible to all students.

The teachers picks a set of 10 questions relating to a topic or from the lesson which will be arranged from most challenging at the top to the least challenging at the bottom (Image attached).

Students should pick their staring point on the ladder (Highest point 8 and lowest point 3). If students get their first question correct, they move up a step on the ladder. If students get a question, they move down a step on the ladder. Students should follow this process until they have answered 3 questions. If anyone finishes early, they can have a go at the other questions.

The point of the exercise is pupils can decide what level they start on after an evaluation of their stage in learning with regards to the content on the board. Teachers can also direct pupils towards a start point depending on their view of the pupils learning, allowing appropriate challenge and support.

Click the link to be taken to the slide template: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zff5wCHX4nlbV20xK6u5OY1X998PUmXn

Teachers differentiate the learning when they adapt the learning, teaching and assessment to meet individual children's needs.

Achieve is a digital platform which allows you to direct pupils towards learning which suits their needs and works on their areas of development. This platform is currently only applicable to pupils who are working on National 5 courses and above.

Achieve allows teachers to differentiate learning by directing pupils towards topics which have been identified as needing improvement off the back of formative and summative assessment. This means a lesson can run smoothly whilst pupils working on a variety of different areas seamlessly during the same lesson. Pupils can complete further reading and consolidation via notes on the platform, quiz themselves using a huge question bank coupled with links to SQA PPQs. Pupils can also evaluate their own learning to identify what areas they should study.

Teachers also have the ability to create a variety of question sets to meet the individual needs of the pupils in their classes.

More reading and information on setting up and navigating Achieve can be found on the LTA Hub: https://sites.google.com/d/1-gXnIMZQA5r6spV7uZcIaXwNdhdTVCId/p/1s2DYINuq0wf8qaZu_MidkcE6Wn_PRSdx/edit?pli=1
