Not having enough information is a common cause of making unhealthy decisions. For example, if you’re doing a research projects for school, you need to be able to decide what sources are reliable sources. Without enough information about the sources you decided to use, you might end up using incorrect information and get a bad grade.

There are a few specific times in which I applied a thoughtful decision making process in a health related situation. One that comes to mind is when I was injured and couldn’t participate on my team. A little over a year ago, I developed stress fractures on both sides of my L5 vertebrae. I had to decide whether I wanted to see if they’d heal on their own, or rest and let them heal. I didn’t want to be out for an injury because I love my sport, but I also didn’t want to have back issues for possibly the rest of my life. I had to apply a thoughtful decision making process to make my decision, and I ended up deciding on rest. I believe this is a good example because I had both emotional attachment and not enough information, and still made a healthy decision.
