How were people with mental/physical disabilities treated in America in the 1930s?

People in the 1930s with both mental and physical debilitates were treated terribly in America during this time. This is because in 1930 it was commonly said that anyone that was disabled should not be able to have any children. However, if they did have any children, then some sort of sterilization should be done, which is horribly awful and the way Ableism was presented in 1930 was very insensitive.
