Paul Rand uses the elements of colour, line, shape and text in this design. He uses bold flat colours with no texture, and solid shapes as symbols. This is to create a minimalistic modern look. The use of plain backgrounds and negative space also contribute to the modern style and feel.
Complimentary colours (red and green) make the image appealing to the eye. Contrasting colours and the use of light and dark is used to make the design readable and clear.
The layout is specifically chosen; where symbols more spread out and randomly spaced gives a messier more casual look, and where symbols all contained in one shape make it feel more sleek, combined, simplistic. The placement of the text creates interest.
The idea is good because it holds a distinctive style and evokes a certain feeling and attitude. It is bad because I can't tell what it is regarding or advertising - what is the point in this piece of work.

Paul Rand uses different typography and form to separate his first name and last name. This creates a contrast and helps us differentiate the 2 names from the huge jumble of letters. The typography is clear and bold. Paul Rand used monochromatic colors such as grey and blacks to base his layout. The red striped font is more of a solid and vivid creates an exciting and more joyful mood to the viewers. Paul Rand uses primary colours and 2 shades of green in his design. This is simplistic and is composed of rectangles and circles. This is a simplistic colour scheme. The word "subway" builds an idea of advertising for metro/transport station.

I feel that Rand got his inspiration from basic transit features such as the separated links and paths like transport maps.

Between both designs, Paul Rand uses simple, solid colours, shapes and text. The use of a solid colour background is effective as it draws attention and makes the main image stand out. Also there aren’t too many colours or text on the design which makes the design simple otherwise it’ll look too messy and not able to get the message across. Then again because Paul Rands style is simple but also different, I tend to find it a bit difficult to understand what the piece is about.

The yellow subway poster symbolises the transit maps that we see in the subways, this can portrayed through the yellow roots in the poster leading to the destination similar to a transit map. Using black as the back ground allows the brighter colours in the typography to standout and isolate between the background. Using two different colours for the lettering helps seperate the first name and second, this makes the design standout because the words are muddled up and using different colours helps it become a visual puzzle

What is distinctive and memorable about the design work on the right is the way 'Paul Rand' is spaced out in a way that you have to unscramble the letters to spell 'Paul Rand.' The artwork on the left showcases the use of bright colours and the effects it has on viewers, as the brightness attracts and catches eyes. The use of space presented in the artwork on the left also compliments the use of bright colours as it brings out the main art piece with a clean white background.

This is shown through the choice of elements he uses in his designs; he uses simple typography and blocks of color and very simple shapes. This makes Rand’s designs look very minimalist and draws attention to the main focus of the design which is usually the brand name or title.

Shape and Scale are two elements of design present in both designs used as examples. Both of the designs utilise a circle as the focal point, and draws your attention as it's either the only other shape used (design on the right) or is repeated in different sizes (design on the left). This could be interpreted as a signature of the artist, although more research into other designs of the artist is needed. The right design also uses scale, and the repetition of the circles in different sizes adds perspective and depth to the design even though the colours used with it are flat. This adds more interest to the work because it leads you to wonder what it is possibly depicting.

He uses different shapes to show the message and the lettering is more blocky and rounded. I like the simplistic design but, I find it quite hard to understand the meaning of the design.

He has also used bold simple colours such as yellow and green in order to make the design more eye-catching, modern and distinctive to the audience. While the other poster uses a much more darker colour theme while still maintaining a simple design without being too bland or boring. He has also use simple bold typography to make the poster simple and straightforward for the audience to understand his intention.

The elements of design that Paul Rand uses in his pieces are colours: Red, yellow, blue, green, and then some sort of neutral colour such as white or black. What the colours do to the piece is capture the eye. It demands our attention, as the main colour is normally pretty saturated. It adds emphasis to the piece, and in doing so, holds our attention for much longer. The type of shapes that the artist uses in their pieces are very simplistic. Generally being one or multiple shapes being merged together. There’s normally just a very few amount of shapes of each piece. This gives off a feeling of minimalism.

Looking at both of the designs I can see that Paul rand utilizes simple shapes, texts, colors. His use of such a simplistic design makes the main focus pop out due to the color and text paired with the background, his backgrounds are mostly one color making it easy for others to see what the main focus is. Looking at the second image I can see that the placement of each letter is used so that the viewer can distinguish that it is his name but still sees a puzzling design in a simple format, he changes the look of letters having first name posses a stripped pattern and having his last name share the same color as the background making 'Paul' stand out more than 'Rand'.
