C-Diff is a result from disruption of normal healthy bacteria in the colon, often from the use of antibiotics. C. difficile can also be transmitted from person to person by spores. Symptoms of C-diff can include but not limited to: diarrhea, belly pain and fever.  Clostridium difficile is very contagious and normally is spread by person to person by touch or with direct contact with contaminated surfaces like the persons clothing to a cell phone or door handles.  There are ways to prevent from getting Clostridium difficile like using gloves when dealing with a patient or family that has Clostridium difficile or performing hand hygiene after leaving the patients room.  With that in mind alcohol does not kill the bacteria so the use of soap and water is a must when trying to prevent the spread of Clostridium difficile.  If you end up obtaining Clostridium difficile, don’t fear the treatment normally includes antibiotics ironically.
