MEXICO CITY. Each person who lives in Mexico generates approximately 1.2 kilograms of garbage per day, and that gives us a total of 42 million tons of solid urban waste generated each year only in Mexico, and only 14% is recycled. On average, each person in Mexico spends approximately 48 kilograms of disposable plastic each year, so 6,240 kilograms of these plastics are thrown away in the country. Also, 9 million bottles a day are disposed of, which, as we all know, have many uses and are easy to recycle to make something new or simply to make another bottle of plastic. The use of plastic because of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased so much that recycling systems have collapsed in some countries. If no action is taken, more than 70% of this plastic will end up in oceans and landfills, and up to 12% will be burned, causing pollution and disease in the most vulnerable areas of the planet.

Well, not anymore. We are Wasteless World and we are sick and tired of seeing how people generate and generate what they call “garbage''. Then they throw it away without even thinking that those things they are throwing away can be used more than once or recycled to do something totally new and useful. That is exactly why we started this campagne, since we realized that these numbers and pourcentages are really worrying, we started to create initiatives and projects to do our part in the rescue of our planet, starting with our country. Our goal is to reduce the waste generated, especially plastics, in the country by 50%. 

We suppose you are wondering how we plan to achieve this goal which, at first glance, seems very distant and difficult to accomplish? Well, we try to invite people to recycle with funny initiatives and challenges in social media. On our Instagram account, @wasteless.world, on our Facebook page, Wasteless World, on our Twitter account, @WastelessWorld, or on our TikTok account, @wasteless_world people can find videos, posts, photos or gifs about ideas to recycle or reuse things that they probably have in their house and probably were about to throw away because they think that is trash, but now they can have fun doing something new and they can be happy knowing that they are helping to save the planet. Also people can join the initiative with the hashtag #wastelesswork and can share their videos and posts in which they are seen doing some of our ideas or projects to encourage other people to do something similar and catch their attention, with the goal to grow the project and achieve our objective. 

What makes us different from the other campaigns is that, instead of asking for money to support the projects, you can do the projects yourself, with the budget you want (although, actually, almost no project requires any extra expense, because they are done with things you have at home). Also we try to propose projects that are useful, and now, we are focusing on ideas to help with the pandemic, like things that we can reuse, clean and disinfected.
