Particularly if the NOS (network operating system) will be Windows (see later). The alternative will be a Linux OS and one of the Libre Office open source suites. The practice will have an application that currently stores patient records and this includes details of their treatment. It is assumed that this software will have some connection to a database system, currently only not networked. The application will have to reside in a file server as part of the network refurbishment in order for each user, from receptionists to dentists and practice manager. 

(Decision based on scenario again – what will be manageable for the practice. There is only a practice manager to carry out any tasks related to the system and we are not aware of his level of expertise.
