It's my cul de sac! For three years, three families lived across the street from one another. Looking back, none of us can believe how long it took us to unite. For the past three years we have been building a community of families together. We all come from different faith and geographic backgrounds, and we have united around creating a sense of belonging for our kids and neighbors. I am deeply grateful for the times we spend together and in observing each other's religions, rituals, and life cycle events. it became clear very recently how strong our community had become. A new family moved in just last month, amid strict rules of social distancing. United, we all agreed that physical distancing was important to our safety, but that distancing socially was not going to be an option. Within minutes, a new family had a built in community, was welcomed and became part of something we all think is special. The glue that binds us is the human desire for connection. The blessing of sheltering in place has been an amplification of what it means to be a neighbor. I am asking myself, who is my neighbor, and what is my responsibility towards them? We universally began asking these questions in our small cul de sac and we answered with epic water balloon battles (a perfect activity from a distance), and nightly gatherings in the street. I am grateful every day to be surrounded, albeit virtually right now, with so many committed, passionate and dedicated people. 


While the last few months have thrown all of us for a loop, my team at Honeymoon Israel has kept me grounded and made me so grateful every day to be serving our community of young families. 


Amidst all of the uncertainty, anxiety, and never ending ups and downs, my unit has kept functioning in a beautiful way. 

While being a part of Honeymoon Israel has always been rooted in a shared commitment to building a vibrant and inclusive community, during the "Corona era" our common goal and hard work have provided me with an even deeper and more soul-nourishing sense of family."

The surgeon and his surgical team were great and constantly kept me informed. Since then, Lily has been mainly in ICU and all the nurses, medical team, and technicians have been fantastic. The surgeon continues to call me or FaceTime me with updates at least twice each day. Lily is now in rehab at the hospital, in order to get stronger prior to discharge. She is getting physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, etc. and everyone is so professional, caring, and personable, realizing that without any outside visitors, it is very stressful for both Lily and her family. We cannot thank USC Keck Hospital and the medical team enough for the top notch care. Hopefully, Lily will regain strength and be home soon.
