Glendalough is one of the most important monastic places in all of Ireland. It was founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin an Irish hermit priest. It is located in the glacier valley of the same name in the full Wicklow Mountains, south of Dublin. In the background, we can see the Round Tower 35 meters high that served as a landmark for the approaching visitors, but also as a bell tower, or even for storage of goods and a refuge against attacks by the Vikings. It is currently in ruins.
