Executive Branch

The Executive branch enforces the laws made by the Legislative branch. The Executive branch consists of the President, Vice President, and the "Cabinet". The Cabinet are the heads of all of the different federal agencies, and they all work for the President.

Legislative Branch

The Legislative branch makes laws. The Legislative Branch is divided into 2 parts: the House of Representatives and the Senate. If the House and Senate agree on a new law, then they send it to the President, of the Executive branch, to approve it. If the President does not approve it, called a "veto", then the Legislative branch can vote to make it a law without the approval of the Executive branch by a 2/3 majority vote.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial branch interprets the laws created by the Legislative branch by deciding how to apply it in criminal and civil court cases. Judges of the federal Judicial branch serve for life, and are appointed by the Executive branch and must be approved of by the Legislative. Cases brought before the Judicial branch can be brought before higher courts, called appellate courts, if the law was not interpreted correctly. The highest appellate court is the Supreme Court, and they are the final decider of how laws are applied in the United States.
