Urban Decay in the world today

Today, 9.2% of the world lives in extreme poverty. With limited access to education, there is high unemployment. As more and more people move to the streets, the level of hunger rises, causing many people to die each year from lack of food and healthcare. Another example of urban decay seen today is high crime rates. According to Google, "the crime rate is the ratio between the number of felonies and misdemeanours recorded by the police". With crime levels rising, there will be less money for other services.

Urban decay was a big problem in Rome. According to the "History" website, most roman's lived in small smelly rooms. These apartments were hot, dirty, and crowded. A good portion of the roman people rented the upper apartments because they were cheaper to pay for. They were also much more dangerous. People were often thrown out to the streets for not being able to pay rent. Due to this, cities in Rome started to decay.

I think the sustainable goal for Roman Urban Decay is connected with "Sustainable cities and communities". This SDG connects with Urban decay in Rome because, in Rome the cities and communities were dirty and was decaying. Just like what was happening in Rome its happening to our cities right now. Our cities are decaying, rotting, hot and dirty, which was also a problem in Rome.
