my experience in Brighton so far

I've never been out of my country before. Seeing that the mode of driving was quite different from my country Nigeria amazed me. Here in the UK, the cars drive at the right hand side which isn't usual. Something else that suprised me was that they call elders by their name. I'm used to Mr and Mrs but it's quite different here. I was even more shocked to find out that smoking is very normal and there are some smoking areas drafted out for those who will like to smoke. So far, I'm loving Brighton because every one is free to wear and express themselves how they want. No fear of being judge like how my home country was. Don't get me wrong, I mean I like here a lot because you get to meet people from different countries. There are friends I have from some countries I never even knew that existed in my continent, Africa.

When you're positive in life, think positively and you won't have problems. I need to learn how to stop being negative. If a day goes by, don't just reflect on the bad thing that happened, think about those who complimented you, those who smiled at you and those who you had some nice conversations with. It really helps a lot.

Whenever I want to stay positive, I talk to my mum, talk to my sisters , talk to friends and got out and eat.Yes I said eating it helps me a lot.

I also have different friends I can make video calls, talk to my friends about my problems and they talk about theirs too. Its just staying positive

what makes a successful student?

Good question. Now let me direct the question to myself. What would make. me a successful student?

I'll have to be consistent, always studying ahead of the teacher, reading and reflecting on what ive been thought in class. This also includes studying at all times and meeting my lecturers when i'm not clear or have a proper understanding of what I've been thought in class.

Commitment is part of what makes a student successful but most students finds it quite hard. This involves being able to keep up a reading timetable and a well rescheduled timetable that'll balance our lives and makes sure we aren't lacking both socially, morally and educational wise. if I am committed to my studies, I'll be able to get good grades at the end of the term.

Having attendance also makes you successful because that way, you won't miss any explanation the teacher has to offer.

Above all, hard work. You can't be committed, have good attendance and be consistent without being hardworking. Hard-work pays a lot and its the key to success asides praying to your God.

respect is reciprocal

respect is fundametal

respect is essential in life

We need to learn how to respect people's opinions, views, and perspective.

We should try to think about the side effects of disrespect and check if we would like it if we get disrespected.

Try to smile a lot, say something nice to people, compliment people, it'll go a long way. Who knows if the person is already having a bad day, putting a smile on their faces won't be bad. If someone says something bad to you don't fight bad, so you don't end up being regretful.

Try to ignore, if someone tries to bully or provoke you, ignoring the person will be a better approach than fighting back.

Also try to be positive, it helps a lot.

And as for the bullies, let it go. Ignore

Walk past like nothing happened, you''ll be fine. Ive been bullied before so I know how that feels.

Choose to respect those who disrespect us, talking back won't help because we'll end up hurting other people.

Handling stress

Stress is unavoidable at any stage in life. Whether as a student or a graduate, you will still undergo stress. Now, how do you handle stress as a student?

Numerous things, including relationships, school work, money, and health issues, can cause stress. You can identify the things in your life that typically create stress by thinking back on previous events. For example, you may observe that frequent stresses include disagreements with friends at school. Because it enables you to record stressful events and your responses to them, journaling can be a useful tool for tracking these trends. You can take proactive measures to address or lessen the effects of your triggers by being aware of them. try to do some relaxing things.

You can also try to stop thinking about the bad things that has happened to you or stress, think about the smallest thing that made you smile including that random person who told you that you smell nice or that you look nice.

You can try doing things that reliefs you of stress like playing music and seeing movies.

3 things you've done well, 3 things you can improve

First of all, I need to appreciate myself for being able to make it to UBIC college. It was not an easy task because it required me writing IELTS like twice and getting too many rejections from many schools because of my age until I finally got 2 offers.

Secondly, I was able to improve my reading score in EAP even if I still have some work to do in my writing exams. Also I have been able to work on my sleeping schedule from sleeping at 3/4am to sleeping at 11pm even if that's a bit late but it's an improvement. I was able to start reading everyday though not for a long time but it is something I need to work on. Maybe increasing my reading hours from 30 minutes t0 1 hour and maybe increase it even more. Asides academics, I have made up my mind to become a content creator and I am working towards posting 2-3 times daily.

I am currently studying EAP to write the exam in April. The last time I wrote the exam, I got 70 in reading, 75 in speaking, 65 in listening but I didnt really reach the cut off mark for my course which is pharmacy. But in the past few weeks, I think I am improving in my writing, how to develop ideas, how to answer the question and I have also improved in language and use of strong cohesion words. I think I need more help in understanding the question and knowing how to answer questions.

Reflecting on LACSA week (Collaboration)

LACSA week was so fun. I participated in lot of activities ranging from treasure hunts, to playing board games. I did not do this alone but with my group mates which really helped my collaboration skills.

Starting from the treasure hunt, I and my group mates chose to do our group task at the beach. We had 16 clues and we were 4 in the group so each person had 4 clues to work on starting from the pier down to the basket courts and to i360.

When playing the board football game, I worked with someone and she played the role of the striker and I played the role of a defender. Working together as a team is so fun however, you have to have some skills to achieve a goal.

These skills includes teamwork, honesty, been jovial and staying positive. These collaboration skills are even needed for the course I am pursuing (pharmacy).

Collaboration can also be called teamwork and collaborating skills are very essential in our everyday lives.

When I talk about being happy, nothing else comes to my mind except from having peace of mind. To me, being happy is anything that keeps me relaxed and stress free. I do not even have to be idle to be happy. It could be that one compliment I got on the road on my way back to my accommodation that could make my day. Asides that, I enjoy eating, listening to music , spending time with my friends and family members, even making calls with my best friend that stays far away from me. In anything I do in life, I always have it at the back of my mind that many people wishes to be where I am at in life today. Little things like this just brightens my day and makes me smile.
