The antagonist in this book is Hank. Dan finds out in the 2nd chapter, that his mom is engaged to Hank. From the very beginning Dan hated Hank. On page 10 when Dan met Hank, Dan was already hating on him. "Hank will turn out to be a deadbeat. Or an alcoholic. Or an adult baby. Or just a plain old dick." Dan didn't want Hank to be his stepdad. I know this is the case because of the harsh quote above.

The protagonist in the book Dan vs. Nature is clearly Dan. His name is not only in the title, but the story is narrated by him as well. Throughout the whole story the narrator refers to Dan as "I". Dan is the character who the author wanted the reader to root for.

For 93% of the book Dan was trying to get rid of hank by doing terrible things to him. But the last 7% of the book Dan realized what he had done was wrong. Dan admitted to Hank that he was trying to make Hank mad, and want to leave. Dan Said sorry and decided from that point on that he would treat Hank like a dad. "For everything I was Wrong about you. I didn't even give you a chance. I'm really sorry."

In the book Dan's actions weren't that great. Several times the group that was in the forest, encountered some kind of major problem like a bear attack. Dan's actions were poor because he wasn't the man who stepped up and saved the day. Instead he was the one who had to be saved. For example some point in the middle of the book Dan, Charlie, Hank, and Penelope were In a cave. In the cave they got attacked by a rattle snake. Dan was the kid who almost got killed by it and Penelope had to save him. This was bad for Dan's ego because he had a strange crush on Penelope which I found weird because she was more manly than him.

Character that was a leader

In The book Dan vs. Nature, there was a somewhat obvious leader. That leader was definitely not Dan. The leader in this book is Penelope. Going back to the time when the group got attacked by a snake, Penelope was definitely a leader. She not only saved lives in a life or death situation but she took control. She knew what to do without any hesitation. After she killed the snake she also made it into food to help them survive. Another situation where Penelope stood out as a leader was when Dan shot hank in the leg with a bow and arrow. Penelope took charge and kept everyone calm. She knew what to do and did it fast. She made sure Hank was safe and without her hank might have bleed to death.

m about yoa

I honestly loved this book. I am not a huge reader, but I will for sure read this one again. I never laughed so hard while reading a book. It was actually hilarious. it was also very interesting. It was a very unique story and I don't think there's many similar out there. If I were you I would read this book. I rate it 10/10. I'm not sure why the book doesn't have any medals or anything. My best guess is because of all the swearing, which really just makes the book more funny. The book didn't have any slow spots where I was dying of boredom. While reading this book I felt an urge to keep reading and not stop because there was so much suspense. One last good reason to read this book is because there's a good chance you will relate to it. The writing style was good because it never got too detailed where I you felt like you were going to fall asleep. The character development was good as well. They were all clearly introduced. This story was 100% believable. It was based on a true story actually. the ending was also great. The ending really showed how Dan changed as a person and I felt it was very smooth.
