Jonathan was born on March 11, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, and was raised on Naval stations in the US and Puerto Rico. He is now 70 years old and is living in northern California with his wife Maureen. The couple has two grown sons- Aaron and Sean.

Jonathan got his start with writing in high school and college when he became fascinated with poetry. He received a Masters Degree in Social Science and never studied literature. However, he considered himself a writer by the time he graduated college. He danced in a modern dance company after college and worked many odd jobs. All the while, Jonathan was writing. His poems and short stories were published in magazines, but he was hardly making a living. The big change happened when Aaron and Sean were born and Jonathan switched his focus to writing for children. His stories got picked up and published! He was meant to do this all along! Now he is making a living as a writer- his dream come true.
