         <description><![CDATA[<div>I am Diana Sousa and I lead the <a href="https://www.wur.nl/en/Research-Results/Chair-groups/Agrotechnology-and-Food-Sciences/Laboratory-of-Microbiology/Research/Microbial-Physiology.htm">Microbial Physiology</a> group at the Laboratory of Microbiology from WUR. Besides my role in promoting this sand-pit event, I will also be a participant and look forward to learn from all of you! We can do better together is my motto! and, funny enough, this applies to both scientists and microbes ;). My work focusses on the study and application of microbial co-cultures for the conversion of waste gases into useful biochemicals (e.g. fuels/plastics). I believe that the collaboration between microbes is not only fundamentally interesting but can also lead to improvement of our biotechnological processes in the future.          <description><![CDATA[<div>I am Laura Villanueva and I lead a group of Marine microbiology at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. We are interested in the isolation of novel microbes from deep anoxic marine system which might have an environmental or biotechnological value. We are also interested in studying interactions between microorganisms in those systems by using molecular methods and in situ measurements. In this regard, we are setting up a system for live cell imaging under anoxic conditions. Really looking forward to brainstorm/collaborate :-)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hello! I am Anna Doloman, a postdoc in the group of Prof. Sousa at WUR. My research focuses on the natural syntrophic (eating together) microbial communities&nbsp;and how they organise into complex biofilms (example, granular anaerobic sludge). I am fascinated by the metabolite and signal interchange that occurs within those communities and believe that synthetic communities can only be improved by utilizing the same principles/knowledge.
