H&M and Zara have collection boxes instore to collect old clothing and recycle it into new garments. H&M will also donate 3c for every kilogram of clothing returning in this way to fund research into recycling technologies.

We need to rethink our fast-fashion habit—we can't continue to make clothes that do not consider our environment.

First, it's up to apparel brands to take responsibility for the waste they're creating. Brands need to address head-on the chemicals, use of textiles waste and synthetic fabrics that don't break down, and unfair working environments in the clothing industry.

It’s time for clothing companies to commit to ending the wasteful practice of overproducing clothing then destroying overstock. And as consumers, we can use our power to call on these companies to change, while also reducing our own environmental impact.
