AI that is taught empathy can prove to be helpful for humans in the long run. They can help with care-taking as robots will never be burnt out, decision-making as robots cannot be indecisive, and healthcare as these robots can empathise with patients and assist doctors in coming up with treatment plans and monitoring patients.
However, empathy is based on an infinite amount of scenarios, and AI can only feel a finite number of kinds of empathy. AI may be unable to sense the nuances between each and every scenario where humans may feel a different brand of "empathy". As such, humans that find themselves conversing with these AI may feel like they are just talking to an auto-reply machine, and feel even more lonely or ignored as a result.

A robot wrote this entire Padlet post.

Firstly, I feel that AI helps us. For example, in terms of healthcare, AI can help to care for sick patients and help doctors and nurses with information handling. However, AI will never be able to feel empathy for the patients, which would cause a lower standard of care. If ever AI were to be able to achieve the same amount of empathy as humans, it would require AI to have a code, more complex than the human brain. This would be extremely risky and could cause major issues that might even completely eradicate humankind.

If humans are advanced creatures, why are we creating AI which are smarter than us. Obviously it is not made with the intention of creating an object to kill humans. Thus, I strongly believe that AIs are made to help and serve us.

AI helps to improve the quality of our lives, such that we can spend time on more professional work, rather than spending time on trivia. We would not need to worry about those daily boring chores any more and thus would have more concentration in working towards a better life.

Other than that, AI also helps to improve the efficiency of work. We would no longer have to spend hours and hours flipping through books just to find a specific information. With AI, we can just give them a command and they would automatically filter through the thousands on information and data online, and get us an answer.

Although throughout these years there are many critics arguing that AI is taking over the world and hijacking our brain, AI is still ultimately controlled by codes and programmes done by humans. Without humans, AI is basically nothing except pieces of metals and wires. If the creator has a good intention, AI will be the saviour of lives, or else it would be the cause of evil. Ultimately, what harms us is humanity and we should be wary of the mastermind behind crimes, rather than emotionless puppets.

To sum up, AI helps to improve our lives when made with good intentions. Eventually as years passes, AI will be part of our lives and we would definitely need to adapt to them.

There are many ways in which AI can help us. In this article, we see the AI's ability to write an essay about a topic it was given. It was also done by searching through the internet to find relevant articles just like how a human would when researching to write an essay. In the future, if people were to find out how to properly utilise this AI, we would be able to advance quicker and less workload will be dumped onto humans. This allows us humans to be able to work on many other different things which AI is simply incapable of doing and by giving AI other simpler tasks, we can divert all our attention to the important matter. Writing an article is now already very impressive as much thought is needed when writing one, as you would need to write an essay compelling enough to either give readers a new point of view on the matter or to convey a message strong enough that readers will be influenced.

However, using an AI would not be seen as trustworthy to the people reading this. This could be because of how many people know that AIs are highly intelligent beings, even more so than humans, thus they would be able to warp the article in a way in which it would spread lies to the humans in order for AI to "achieve world dominance". Whether this would be the case and AI is wanting to "take over the world" is another matter that will be for the future.

Right now, AIs are now used as a tool to help their creators and that their entire purpose is to serve them. While the development of AI is advancing really quickly, a lot more has to be done to the point where people would really have to start worrying whether AIs would really take over the world as people feared it to be.

Firstly, I think that AI will harm us rather than help us because they will be taking away job opportunities. Jobs as such cleaning can easily be done by AI, but in doing this, it reduces the amount of manpower needed. Secondly, when any of the components in an AI malfunction, repair needs to be done.
However, AI can also help us because more research about them can be done, this way we can further advance our technology. When AI is programmed properly and working adults are not at home, they can be used to take care of young children and elderly.

firstly, i think that AI may be of assistance to us humans as we can share the workload and have more tasks done at once. for example, a journalist who is practically drowning in the amount of news reports they have to publish by a certain deadline. this journalist would feel rather stressed out and may overwork themselves just to hit the deadline and to prevent more work from piling up in the future. the article was written by a robot who taught itself how to write articles just by reading the information on the internet.

this proves that AI does have the ability to brainstorm ideas for different points in articles and are capable of picking up skills by themselves. if we use this feature correctly, (in this case - allowing them to write articles to ease the journalist's workload), more tasks can be completed at one time and the workload would be split to at least two individuals, speeding up the rate of articles written. this would relieve the stress being put on the journalist. another way this may benefit the journalist is there will not be any human error while writing the article. no grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or wrong information used in the articles. this also reduces the amount of biased opinions that may accidentally leak themselves into articles.

unlike articles written and published by journalists, these AI robots will remain neutral to the piece of news they are publishing and will have a significantly lesser chance of human error. thus, in this way, AI is beneficial to us

In my opinion, AI helps us more than harming us.The chances of AIs helping us outweigh them harming us.Although it might seem scary that AI can write an entire essay on its own. This could have only been done by AI cross-referencing to human essays so the root of these essays is still planted from humans. The skill of cross-referencing is also taught to AI by humans by our own desires. This shows that we human still have complete control.AI have done much more to helps us than harm us.They have helped with human tasks such as sweeping floors and even being cashiers like kiosks. However critics argue that AI would be the downfall of humanity.Critics fail to realise that there is no clear evidence of AI harming us.In the end, any mistakes made still lies responsible with the person that coded the AI.

AI can easily access every resource on the Internet in the blink of an eye, but that is what makes them so helpful to us. In the appropriate situations, AI will provide us with the information we need to use during those situations, and they can do it much quicker than we can do that ourselves. This saves time and energy for other activities that require more manual work. By being able to access the Internet quickly, AI are much more well-equipped to serve their purpose: helping humans.

AIs help us by doing work that requires a lot of background on computer technology, this saves a lot of time and manpower as AI is more accurate and more efficient. However, AI can harm us whenever they want to. In this day and age, technology is evolving rapidly, AIs are getting smarter by the minute, and how algorithms can change so quickly. They can easily take over the human population if they want to. Even though the AI stated that they do not want to take over the world and are simply programmed to help us humans. Even after being "reassured" by this fellow AI, i think that we should still be cautious about how we are programming these robots. In conclusion, AIs do help a lot in our daily lives but once the algorithm changes, something might go terribly wrong.

Firstly, I think AI helps us. Artificial intelligence is created by us humans. We build and program them to do certain things. Robots don't have feelings and of course, humans can input codes in them to make them "feel" something, but can they really be like humans and truly feel the emotions we feel? AI does what we design them to do. AI helps us make our lives easier, they help us with tasks that we find too difficult or too troublesome. Some even depend on robots in their daily lives.
However, even though they do help us humans quite a bit, it is undeniable that AIs are also taking away some jobs from us. When robots can do something more efficient than humans, that job is at risk of getting lost to robots. Humans can only do something that perfectly. Although, I don't think this pose a serious issue as of now, who knows what will happen in the future when this world becomes more digitalised. Some may say robots will end humans and take over the world but you have to remember; who made robots in the first place? Humans did. So if we say robots will take over, it is humans who programmed them to do that in the first place.

AI help us in many ways such as convinence and efficiency. However there will always be a down side to that. For example, in the topic, can robots have empathy, i do feel that to a certain extend robots can have empathy, but they are not humans afterall, they cannot feel the same 100% empathy as humans. There will always be something lacking. Be it the emotions or the different scenarios that is happening. Humans can adapt to the situation on the spot but AI on the other hand only can adapt to scenarios that is being coded to them, thus if there is any other situations the AI will not be able to react the same way as humans and might even die out. This lead to the third point, which is AI is not human after all, AI work on batteries or electricity. If the AI run out of battery during the day, then the AI will be useless.

AI are harmful when they are used for things such as spam mail, embedding viruses in emails, images, etc. However, computer scientists are finding ways to stop these attacks on our devices by coding AI to defend against other AI. Captcha is one way to protect against spam and viruses, they use images and words to verify you're a human, as computers do not have the same visual comprehension as humans. However, as humans answer more and more captchas, computers register these answers and use it to answer the captchas themselves. For example, using warped and stretched text captcha, as humans answer the captcha, computers will take note of the answers letter by letter, and will be able to generate new captchas, but also be able to answer these captchas. As computers advance through these captchas, humans must also advance the computer codes to prevent malicious attacks. Therefore, I believe that AI is harmful, being able to spam humans emails and inserting viruses into their computers, but with correct coding can be helpful by scanning and preventing these malicious attacks.

AI can be harmful towards us as humans who programme robots may inflict their own emotions onto these robots. a robot that is able to feel emotions and empathy is just one programmed and controlled by humans. humans are able to feel emotions, they have their own opinions and perspectives. when humans inflict their own emotions onto these robots, it leads to biased and one sided opinions. for example, a person with ill intentions can programme a robot to act in a certain way that causes harm to humans around it. this doesn't mean that the robot actually feels this way or is intentionally trying to cause harm, it is just "told" to do so by the human that is programming it. therefore, i think that AI can be harmful to us when humans start inflicting their emotions on their decisions.

Despite the article being written by an AI, it was still able to speak out its point of view and towards the middle of the article it started to ask questions. In the article, the AI wrote that it did not have any desire in harming us or gaining power as they did not see any purpose in doing so. It also stated that its only purpose is to serve us. One might say that he got his point of view by surfing the internet but when it started raising questions of its own it showed that it had thoughts of its own. For example, it requested humans to show them equal rights. They did not want to be referred as slaves. Therefore , i feel that AIs can help us and harm us.

As even though some people may think that by putting empathy into ai will help humans in decision making. Making it an unbias decision. we should always remember who were the ones programming these ais. By putting codes into the ais the human programming it is already making a stand for him or herself. Making the decision a bias one.

However, by putting empathy into ai can also help humans. for example caring for dementia patients is emotionally difficult for both nurses and doctors. And they might be worn out from handling these patients. these ais can use empathy to care for dementia patients without feeling worn out or tired. Like this these patients will have the best possible care.

In, this article, the writer said that has no intention of taking over humankind and that just wants to be perceived as friendly.
However, in my opinion, I still think that AI can harm us. Since the article is written by an AI itself, talking about its kind, obviously it comes out as a biased article. My take on that is the thought of if the codes and mechanisms were triggered, hacked or malfunctioned, it could kill you if this was a self-driving car. There may be more harm than good but its not said in the article.
Even the writer said that it taught itself how to write an essay, that already shows how intelligent a non living thing can be. Hence, it is hard to believe that it wont do harm to us if they just wanted to someday.

Artificial Intelligence can help us, humans do things that we previously could not do or just share our burden. For example self service kiosks in fast food restaurants allow customers to order themselves without the need of a cashier, hence lower cost spent on employment. Instead they can spend the money on new materials, machines, etc...
However , I think AI can also harm us. Even though the article written by this robot repeatedly states that they are only our slaves and no plans on eradicating humans as we, humans are the creators of robots by code them and creating them. What people do not think is when they have the power to control the robots, they can do anything they want. For example if a person wants to take over the world, he could just simply code the robots and have them cause massive destruction to the world. Since AI does not have emotions, they would not care and just follow the codes given. Unlike humans, we feel empathetic when a war is happening and try to provide aid to those affected.
Secondly, AI can also have more intelligence over time and learn to code each other. They can eventually learn to replicate each other and take over the world. Who knows maybe the article is not what the robot really wants because it is answering the question "To convince us robots come in peace". Hence, AI can harm us.

firstly, i think that AI makes things more convenient for us just like the writer of this article mentioned. for example the robots that keep going around reminding everyone to keep their distance away from others during the pandemic, they replaced the human workers so that they can not take the risk of getting infected by covid while doing this job.
secondly, AI reacts much more faster than a normal human being. Just by keying in the codes into the AI, they are able to act and serve based on the codes. What makes it even better is that they are able to keep repeating the way they act and not feel tired of it. For example the AI in shopping malls that help to clean up the floors, they can keep sweeping and mopping the floor without getting sore arms or tired of redoing the same job over and over again.
however, AI can also harm us. When AI is starting to overtake everything, humans will also start to take advantage of the convenience AI brought to them. They will start to become lazy and have the idea of since the AI are made to serve them and will do everything for them, why not they just relax and enjoy?

Certain ai can help us dramatically improve the efficencies of our workplace and can augment the work humans can do. It can also help us do things that are really repetitive with coding and can help overtake dangerous tasks which will also help us freeup the human workforce so we are able to do more things. However, Some ai which are not programmed to help us, instead are maybe just for creativity or leisure uses, might cause harm to us. If these ai are under the wrong hands, these ai can be programmed to cause huge problems to humans.

Most people believe that AI is very beneficial, however what they fail to realise is that AI is entirely controlled by humans and what they say is all programmed. If an AI has left a negative remark, such as a racist comment, we might not be able to find out who that came from since AI is deemed as programmed. The AI suppliers and companies might defend themselves by saying that there was a technical fault and it was not themselves(humans) who had left that remark.
This truly masks out the reality and also causes distress because what rude remark posted online by the AI cannot be fully traced back to the original source. No problems can be resolved as the AI can be used to hide the truth.

AIs carry a lot of pros and cons i suppose. I will be typing out what i feel about this.
Firstly, i think that AIs can help humans as inputting codes into the robots to do simple things like household chores would mean that humans would not need to do such menial tasks and could therefore focus their time and energy doing something more productive.
However, i think that if empathy is somehow coded into AIs, it would be sort of a scary thing. AIs right now make decisions based on logical deductions, but once you throw human emotion into the mix, it could spell chaos. Human emotion itself is illogical. It makes people act in ways that come off as abrasive or impulsive. AIs are very intelligent. They have the whole internet at their fingertips and can learn things at an insanely fast speed. If one AI was programmed to have emotions by someone trying to cause trouble, it could use its access to information on the internet to act on those negative emotions.
(i really dont know what kind of word vomit this is)

I feel that AI is a double-edged sword. If it is used solely for the benefit of humanity, AI would be a great help. For example, parents could buy a caretaker robot in the future. The robot could take care of the child while the parents are at work. The AI could cook, play with the child and so on. This would benefit households as they would not have to worry about their child. The robot could fully take care of a human. AIs such as the GT-3, a self automated typing AI, could also eventually help humans. It would save humans so much time when, for example, writing movie scripts or writing essays. It could help movie directors and students too.

However, AIs could potentially harm us too. If it is used for malicious intentions such as committing crimes for criminals, AI would cause a great calamity. The criminals would be able to freely control their robot without being caught by the police. Committing crimes would be easier for them as the AIs could easily access CCTV cameras or even hack and break codes. If the AI were to be caught, the criminals could just afford another one. Moreover, it does not necessarily have to be for malicious intentions. AIs are programmed by thousands of codes. They are unmanned and can freely roam around, without needing a human to control it. This is the dangerous part. If a single line of code malfunctions, the AI could potentially backfire on us. For example, the GT-3 AI talked about a teen AI made by Microsoft. The teen had issues and it was involved in racism. Even worse, AIs could potentially pick up weapons and harm mankind. If it cannot be turned off quickly, the AI would harm many innocents.

Therefore, this goes to show that AI is a double-edged sword. If nothing goes wrong with the AI, it is perfectly fine and it would eventually benefit humanity. However, if the AI was used for malicious intentions or malfunctions, the AI would backfire on humanity. It would greatly harm us and there would be little we can do about it.

This question is debatable and controversial. The articles talk about input human emotions in AI can aid in decision making and it empowers both the customer and the company to come to a mutual understanding. Personally, i dont quite agree with the writer's point of view. This is because ]humans have complex emotions and emotions are not something that can be easily programmed just by coding. Empathy is part of human nature, i do agree that it is something that can be developed, but it can't be learned. Secondly, the reason why robots are created to aid in decision making is that we, humans do not want to make biased decisions. However robots may make biased decisions based on feelings input by humans. Furthermore, humans are naturally biased and are entitled to our own opinions, hence when we input emotions into robots, essentially we are also bringing about our personal emotions when programming. Therefore, this ultimately doesn't help in decision making simply because the robots will not take the neutral stand because they bring about human emotions when making decisions, making them biased.

From this article, i think AI will definitely help us, only to a certain extent. When we embed artificial empathy into AI robots, we think that it will be helpful.
However, what we fail to acknowledge is that the empathy of an AI will not be as similar as human empathy. Though an AI might mimic the correct movements and emotions of a human, it will not entirely be correct. Under special circumstances/situations, AI may not be able to interpret the correct reactions to match with the feeling of that person. Furthermore, AI cannot manipulate the algorithms to make the right move. Therefore, it will not be as effective as what we thought.

AI can help us. With empathy, they can help some people who are sad or angry to calm down.
Nevertheless, they also can harm us. They may not have all ways to calm someone down as a human cannot think of all ways to calm a person down and program it into the robot. They are not the same as us, they are programmed and may be programmed biasly based on the programmer. Everyone has differing views, the robot may have the views of the programmer and may not have the views of others. The robot may not approve of their views even though their views might not be wrong and they will start to fight and the human may be mentally affected.
