The values of most Americans were the ideas of reason, liberty, progress, toleration, separation of the church, constitutional government, and fraternity.  Also known has the Age of reason it relied more on scientific facts then superstition. So the dream for most  Americans involved  creating a life based upon the six ideas that were so important during the enlightenment era.
