What was challenging? 

Memorising my script was what I found challenging, because I always had to stop and think about what i was going to say for a few seconds. This lead to me being a bit nervous.

How did you manage the challenges?


When I started presenting I just tried to let my speech flow out, which stopped me from feeling so nervous because I didn’t stop suddenly to think,  Except for that one time when I forgot what I was going to meant to say next and peered over to the table to have a look. Other than that, I believe creating and saying my presentation was ok.

 How many times did you look at your script in during the presentation?

I looked at the script once.


How long your presentation? 

My presentation was around a minute long.


How will you make it better next time? 

Next I would improve by adding some actions into my presentation to make it more interesting, rather than me just standing there and pointing at my family members.

A1: What I had found challenging with this was that I could sometimes not remember parts of my script and a bit surprisingly I couldn’t remember my parent’s ages at some points, this is where I struggled and began to stutter, although I wasn’t really nervous at this point.

Q2: How did you overcome the challenges?
A2: I managed these challenges by just focusing on what I had to and turning my attention away from everyone at some bits and kept on informing myself that I was able to succeed through this and I had full concentration on my speech so I was able to demonstrate a great speech.

Q3: How many times did you look at the script?
A3: I hadn’t looked at the script under any circumstance during the presentation as I was completely focused on my presentation and I had practised multiple times at home and also during class to make speech precise, but sometimes had struggled as I was just a little bit nervous.

Q4: What was the length of your presentation?
A4: The exact duration of my presentation was precisely 1:15 seconds after I had included more information to make my presentation longer and also more informal to the audience. I also liked adding more information to this script as I believed that I would make a better job rather than spending such a short time on a script.

Q5: How could you improve on this in the future?
A5: I believe that I could improve on this in the future with lots of things. I may as well have improved the google slides or presentation and remove some things such as “Zhe she wo de didi.”, make sure to practice more and ask for parent feedback.

I think that what challenged me was the number of people looking at me. I was  also a bit nervous. I forgot some of the things that I was supposed to say.

How did I manage the challenges?
I practiced a lot and I think that it helped a lot.

How many times did you look at your script?
At least once but I think that next time I could do it without looking at the script. I only forgot the ending.

Length of your presentation?
It took me about one minute and twenty seconds to say my whole presentation. I think that I managed my time wisely.

How will you make it better next time?
I could remember the whole script the next time and I could be more fluent.

Dad: I was very pleased to see Miguel presenting in Mandarin. It’s a challenging language and he did very well. I would love if he could do more of these exercises as these speeches would help him improve his abilities to speak Mandarin. He does not have many opportunities to practice. I’m very proud of what he achieved so far... looking forward to see the next speeches!

What was challenging? 
Memorising the script but also putting the script together as you needed to find information and chosing the corect words the make the overall speech.

How did you manage the challenges?
I think that I managed the speech very well but I also think that I could’ve done a bit better as maybe adding some more extra information pottentialy make my speech a bit longer and more detailed.

Parents feedback: I think his presentation was good and he could clearly communicate what he was trying to express. As a native Mandarin speaker, I am impressed by his progress so far. In the course of his speech presentation, the teacher was trying to teach him to use different way’s of expression to explan his Mom’s age. While he did not learn this different expression before, he was eager to show me the video and asked me the difference of these two expressions. This shows his strong interests in learning Mandarin.

Question 1. I broke my leg and it was hard to practice the presentation because I was really busy going to the doctor all the time. I managed to devote some time to my presentation but I think that was definitely not enough. I found out that I forgot my paper with the pin yin at my house so I went to quizlet at the start of the day to make a new presentation. 
Question 4. My presentation was 33 seconds shorter than I wanted it to be(1 minute).

the most challenging part was memorising my script because i had to say it infront of a whole class and i had to think before what I say.

It was nice to see Sumayyah speak mandarin as it is not a very easy language to learn. She seemed very confident and enjoyed what she was doing. 
To make her speech better she could have made more eye contact with the audience. However, I was very pleased with her speech and I can’t wait for more speech’s to come!
