Chemical vs Physical Change:

Traditional Assessment: 10 questions asking students to tell if a reaction is chemical or physical.

To change the assessment to assessment by design, our group would have the items out for the students to use the CER method (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) to argue why certain changes were chemical and why others were physical. Having the students argue would increase their engagement and understanding of the changes rather than picking between two answers.
