I am a global citizen - by working in a three countries, by learning together with the people from many countries, by communicating in a few languages...
I choose to learn, to care and to act to my best ability.
I would love the world to be a cleaner and more friendly place with billions of happy people.
That's why I make my bed in the morning, that's why I collect glass on the beach, that's why I smile to others, share my passion for learning and do many little seemingly unnecessary things.
I do what I can do. And at the end of the day I feel that I achieved my goal - to become a little bit better person than I was yesterday. At the same time making the world a little bit better place for the other people.
And maybe, John Lennon never said this, but it is a very beautiful idea.

Today we headed towards the tropical rainforest. This meant a new check on the bucket list for me personally, hooray! The trip towards Basse-Terre was already worthwhile: magnificent to see the landscape evolve into a more hilly, greener, tropical view. Guadeloupe exudes diversity.
Today's lesson was one of the most theoretical yet. We discussed two important concepts "globalization" and "internationalization". The main question was how we teachers can help to educate our students to become conscious global citizens. When filling in the audit template we found that our school has already achieved a lot in that regard, but in terms of exchanges, there is definitely still room for growth.
I personally found this series of lessons very interesting, because this school year I have started a partnership between our school and a French-speaking school in Brussels. This way I (and by extension my pupils) could already experience the added value of such an exchange: it helps pupils to increase their self-esteem, it gives them more insight into their talents, they broaden their perspective, they develop more mutual respect and citizenship. In addition, it also gave a boost to my own expertise and professional motivation as a teacher.
My quote of the day comes from John-Lennon; this Beatle crossed my path during a toilet visit in the rainforest. In the song "Let it be" he asks, in my opinion, a universal and oh so important question to humanity: "How do you let it be?". A question to which we, with the concepts of globalization and internationalization, may be able to give an answer.

After personal identity, national identity, cultural identity, we focused today on globalization and internationalization. A global citizen is someone who identifies with being part of an emerging world community and whose actions contribute to building this community's values and practices. With globalization and internationalization, we lose (parts of) our national identity, our unique roots, and our culture changes. But it has always been like that... It is an endless cycle of dying and being reborn, as with the phoenix and in nature. We see this also in the case of a banana plant, for example: a stem matures, a flower appears and grows into a bunch of bananas, and the stem dies to make space for a new stem on the same rootstock. Nothing dies, it develops and so it is with culture.

In the coming days, we will learn how to develop projects to give shape to international learning. It is important not to start in a hurry, both for the teachers and for the pupils. People need time. “Globalization and internationalization does not happen overnight. It is important to give the pupils time to let the ideas come in and make them their own.”
