The day that I was born, October 15th was a very special day for my mom (at least I like to think that), she had yet to decide a name for her second daughter! (I was the " planned" one.) Surrounded by her family and friends they debated between multiple names, Paola was one that stood out for my mom but she was not convinced. Her close cousin Alejandro said what about Cindy? Like Cyndi Lauper the singer! My mom took one look at me and decided that the was the name for me. My mother's favorite bother-in-law asked her to name me after herself, giving me the middle name of Guadalupe. The name Guadalupe is a very popular name in Mexican families; it is the name of a virgin.

Currently in my family I am the only Cindy (I like it that way).

At that time my dad was merely 22-years old. He was young and naive; he had NO say in deciding what my name would be. However he did have to go register me in the city after I was born (the small town where I am from did not register babies as soon as they were born; you could potentially have TWO birthdays). When my dad went to register my name and birth he made a HUGE "typo"; the correct way to spell Cindy is with the letter 'C'. My name is spelled with the letter 'S'. Even though that it is a "mistake" I like that my name is misspelled, I feel that it makes me unique.

- In high school my close friend Judith (her nickname was Pollo) gave me the nickname of Nini. I do not know why, what I do know is that till this day she is the ONLY one who calls me by that name. It only makes that much more special.

- I definitely like my name. I think that it is rare and unlike most people I enjoy telling people how to spell my name the "correct" way. It is a total conversation starter!

- An interesting was when I was a sophomore in college I met a girl with the name of Cindy. The first thing she asked me was how do you spell your name... I was in complete awe when i found out that her name was spelled EXACTLY like mine! There was an immediate connection.
