We might feel "imposter syndrome" or reluctant to take the lead but often you can learn while doing, especially with a nudge from a mentor. 5 academia examples from me:

Continuing Education: ALA Emerging Leaders & ACRL Immersion (National library programs requiring recommendations)

Grant: Primary Investigator for K-20 multi-library statewide grant ($75,000)

Self advocacy: Applying for promotion to full rank faculty

Teaching: Designed and served as adjunct for graduate course (TWU) and co-taught freshman seminar (UNT)

Leadership and mentoring: Chaired professional committees, and presentations at state and national level

Leading may look different in your field and based on where you are in your life. That's ok! The takeaway is that you don't have be a self-proclaimed leader, or super confident to go for it/try to take on something new :)
