Social Media allows people to contact each other everyday without having to see each other in person. It's making people more lazy to get out and be proactive. So people feel since they are still in contact with their friends, why should they have to leave the house. It does diminish the human connection to a certain point but it is allowing people to still keep in touch. Also verbal communication is failing because it allows people to hid behind a screen. People today aren't brave enough to say the things they want in person, because of insecurities. Also they might just not give the same effort that is needed to understand whatever is going on in class. There's many students today, who question the educational system and how things are done. They don't believe that having to learn something and put it on a test is the way to determine how smart someone is or how you measure success. Most kids in classes don't have any interest in the subjects there being thought. So when there isn't any interest, students start to not give much effort, and then they start process things slower. Students want to take part in classes they do enjoy and schools (especially high school) doesn't provide many classes. Also students deal with anxiety and depression, just like adults, so if school could be a place that shows them how to handle all that, they would be better in the classroom. People who don't participate in class is most likely scared to talk with a big group because they could feel pressured. This is because a person can have a response ready in there head but will not say it because they have fear that if they say it then it wouldn't make since or it wouldn't be a right answer and they would feel less smart and they wouldn't want there classmates to judge them. When I am in a discusion I will often feel like people are judging me and that if I screw up even once that I'll be viewed harshly. I myself did not get a vaccine, back when I was third grade, for the H1N1 virus. I was out of school for 2 weeks because of it.
