I find it very interesting that at certain points, inflation goes down and then back up. I wonder why that happened. The buying power of $1 has changed a lot over the past few decades and I am very curious about the cause of that. I thought that it would be much more linear than it is and much more diagonal. It also has a negative association with the data. All of this is really interesting to me.

Me and Ethan's graph is about the change of a dollar from 1913 to 2022 in ten year increments. You can see the the value of a dollar has changed a lot in the past 110 years. In the beginning (1913) $28.95 was the same amount as a dollar now. This means that the value of a dollar has gone down. I predict that in the future the dollar value will keep going down because of inflation of necessities. This graph will become more and more of a negative associative graph because the cost or worth of the dollar goes down.

For example in 1913, the value of 2.00$ was 57.90$, and the value of 2.00$ in 1963 the value is 18.67. There is also an outlier in the chart would be that the money value went from 57.90$ to 33.78$ back to 43.99$ and I think that happened because of the great depression in March 1933 and that is the date that I noticed where the outlier was. This is a very negative association and it is definitely nonlinear meaning it is not a state line it is more of a downward-facing rope. (.J.D.C.)

As shown, you can see that the value of $4.00 has descended a lot since 1913. This is graph non linear. On years 2, 3, and 4, (1933, 1943, 1953) you can see the prices do not follow the pattern. This was because this was the time of the Great Depression. This is the outlier. My graph shows that this has a negative association. This is because the prices of every day things are going up; making it very hard to afford, especially for those living in poverty. With this, I understand a little more why the older people in my life are always outraged by the prices of things. I was born in this, so it automatically seems normal to me. But now that I've learned a lot about Inflation, I understand how wild it is that the prices are going up so much.

As you can see from my data that the 50$ value went up down up then down a lot. While I was doing this I wondered why it was going down instead of up like the price of gas and other food items such as grapes or strawberries. The first year I had on my data was 1913 50$ in 1913 had the same buying power as $1,432.91 in 2022. What I did with my years was I went up to 2022 from 1913 by decades like 1933,1943, 1953, and so on and so forth up until 2022. The reason why my graph was a negative association is that it is going downwards in numbers. My graph was non-linear and the reason why it was like that is it was not going in a perfectly straight line. Making this graph I learned more about inflation in the prices of different things such as gas or food.

In this graph you'll see that I decided to use $22.49 to track inflation. The reason I chose this is because I wanted to see how much a K-pop album cost throughout the many years. As shown in this graph the progression of $22.49 has had a negative association over the past years. This means that every point in the graph is decreasing leading to inflation. When inflation, occurs that causes the power of the dollar to dwindle. When inflation takes place it makes anything that you can buy more expensive. A great example of this would be at the Dollar Stores across the USA. Quite obviously they sell things for $1.00 but because of inflation they now need to add 50 cents. This is just one example of inflation in the USA. With that, think of inflation on a wide scale. Grocery stores, gas stations, clothing retailers, and countless more sellers have to face inflation in this country and are struggle as much as we are. We must all do what we can to try and raise the dollar to it's previous glory!

You would be surprised how much the 50 dollar bill would change over 110 years, in 1913 the 50 dollar bill would be equal to over 1,447.53 dollars and cents. Also every year but 1933 it went down a lot even 1933 went down to 1,099.67. This graph is a negative association because the points went down over the year. What I learned from this is more about Inflation, and also how the power of money has lost and gone down a lot.

I chose this price because it is a big but small number and it is in the middle of one hundred so kind of a simple number. it is really surprising how much 50 dollars can decrease over time I think that in the year 1930 the worth of $50 dollars is about 800 to 900 dollars.

Over the past years plastic and resin have greatly risen in cost going from having a CPI of 265.7 to having a CPI of 357. 626 which is roughly a 34% increase. this is even more of an issue for the average consumer seeing as this is the cost for a producer to buy these things. meaning anything that's made of plastic will have an increase in price for example to make the bag of chips you just bought the company producing it has to both pay for the chips but also the plastic packaging the plastic used to ship the chips. but also the machinery to make the chips and the factory that makes the machinery also has to pay for this increase and this chain keeps going and going meaning everything rises in price. that's what i feel like is interesting about material costs for producers. instead of being a bubble it effects everything. -oc

The CPI in January of 2020 was 3.818 and in January 2022 was 4.389. I subtracted the CPI in 2020 (the base year) from the CPI in 2022 (the current year) and got 0.571.

As you can see the basic equation to find the percent that different income rates spend on food is (How much they spend on food) divided by (their income per year) times 100. An example is the people who make $31,691 a year they spend $5,066 on food so 5,066 divided by 31,691 equals 0.159. Then multiply 0.159 by 100 to get a whole number and the percent that people who make this much per year spend on food. So 0.159 x 100 = 15.9 so they spend 15.9% of their income per year on food

In fact it is really bad because people with less money are struggling to buy food because of how high the prices are and it sucks that people can't afford food simply because companies want more money for their product. It is also stupid that people with more money can spend more on food yearly but have that 15,000 dollars be less percent of their yearly income spent on food than people who make less money each year.

My final thoughts on this are what will this increase of prices and all of this going to do for our community and country? The last couple times we've had massive spikes and prices of the dollar going down, it's caused big events, like inflation and connection to great depression. What will happen when we're done with this spike? What will be normal? THose most impacted by inflation right now are the average person who has an average job like an income of 40,000 and those that make less because it was hard already for them. We just had one of the biggest spikes in homelessness from Covid. Prices rising is going to have a toll on everyone. The medium to poor class is going to have massive impacts and the wealthy will have to stop buying stupid expensive things like non essential items like yachts, fancy wine and cars. You might need to sell one of your yachts now.

Why is everyone talking about the rising prices of bacon?!

This lesson taught me a lot. While I had a very vague idea of what inflation was before, I had no idea that prices were getting so high. The fact that people who make much higher wages pay, on average, four percent less of their annual wage on food. I find that horrible because you would expect people with more money would pay more for food but they really pay a lot less while those in poverty are barely managing to stay afloat. I did my project on ground beef and I was incredibly surprised that it has gone up so much on price. I think that the rich and wealthy need to stop buying useless expensive things because it drives prices way up and causes the poor to have to spend even more.

-T.A.P.

People in poverty still wont be able to catch up even if they make larger wages-and prices of items go up! Aaw

this whole thing is bad. It is just there is not really any solutions to fix. Some people say well, what if you just pump more gas so more people will have fuel and the price will go down. Butif you were to do that that would reduce the amount of fuel left in the world. and so if you did that, we would have a limited supply which makes the price sky rocket. Supply and demand like what we did in our auction affects the value of the dollar. I believe there is a solution to inflation--let's reduce the credit in the economy, which is overseen by the FED. People that don't make much money aren't able to pay for essential needs right now and I thought now they're strugling even more.

L.D.E.
I personally thought that the lesson was a good way to put the way that the economy works into perspective. I noticed that after round one ALL of the prices doubled. I found this to be interesting because it's very unlikely for this to happen in the real world. The reason it probably ever happens is because it always varies. During the actual auction it was very entertaining and having friendly competition was fun! After the auction I also liked that we could talk about our noticing.

Also when the supply stock is smaller the money for how much an item is sold increases I wonder if that is what's happening with prices now.

We think that the reason the price went up on the second round of the auction is that there was only one more of each item. Because everyone was crazy to get the item, everyone was using more money. In the first round everyone thought "oh okay we can always get that in the second round" Bet the second round, there were no other chances. Another reason is because we got more money in the second round so we had more to give. We think with more people in the world, families need more food, water, gas, clothes and just everyday objects. Companies and Businesses take advantage of this and raise the prices of these things. People don't really realize how absurd the prices are and just buy the things.

For the first round it was not too much money because people knew that there was one more and they would get more money so people bet five to six dollars. But when the first round was over and if you didn't bet any money then you would get more for the last round so everyone was now wanting to get the last 3 idioms. So what I noticed is the first round was 6$ and the second was 12$. So if there is not as much supplies then of course you would raze the money because everyone wants it.

If I were able to buy things with my own money I would only buy things I need and save leftovers that are still good because I don't want to be poor. Also, I don't understand why people just throw away their leftovers I would give to the homeless because if we all do that then the world would be a bedder place. What caught my attention in the article was the line "But that doesn't mean that Americans who notice inflation in the same places are experiencing it in the same ways" Because people that have less money would be more concerned than people with more money would be.

Higher class people are not very affected but they are not helping the cause but a few higher class people have noticed the rising prices I saw that in this quote "Sitting here as a high-income suburban mom, if you asked me when did I see it, I would also answer in a pound of ground beef." What upsets me is some people are losing their homes with rising house prices because they chose food over paying bills another thing is they are having to buy unhealthy items because there cheaper but that might affect their health later on.

L.D.E
When the article mentioned how beef and a simple loaf of bread had their prices raised I felt genuinely sad. After knowing that there are people who already can barely afford to keep their family in healthy condition, I can barely imagine what it's like to hardly get enough groceries. Not to mention, gas prices. I just know that there are young children that have to hear their parents at night talking about how they can narrowly afford gas to get to work. It's almost impossible to fathom how these kids have to know that their parents can't even buy them the things that they want. Inflation occurring is another reason kids likely won't have enough savings to get a good education. Something that really stood out to me was "Some described lowering the heat this winter to save money, cutting expenses like family vacations and restaurant meals, and delaying home repair projects.".Not to mention, what if eventually their parents will have to start taking out their child's college savings and lessen their chances of going to a good college. This is what inflation is doing to our country. Think about that.

ALso, I wonder how the poor will be able to pay for their stuff with prices going up.

While reading this article someone said ''I am eating expired groceries'' and I am very surprised that people can't even buy food. People are just trying to support their family while this inflation is going on. Some familys with less money are probably panicking because they don't have enough money for food, close, water etc, but for rich people they don't have to worry that much because they have the money they need for now.

When listening to the article i heard something that really stood out to me. "they have noticed that some costlier products have shrunk in size, too." Even before fuel prices hit a record high this week, nearly one in four people cited the rising cost of gas.

One quote that stood out is "Everything is going up, but are wages are not." Another person says that " My family is having to eat expired food." One of the big affects this is having on cities is hygiene and health. I think that the government needs to lower prices. (B.M.W And M.G.W)

Something that resonated with me was how fast the prices for things that did not cost that much cost a lot and when the quote "Americans who notice inflation in the same places are experiencing it in the same ways" I believe it meant that there is more inflation in stores and people are not taking it the same way i think the people that are taking the inflation more is people that earn less money and is less wealthy but people that are wealthy inflation is not that much of a problem for them because they have money for the common stuff like clothes, food ,gas Etc.

something i noticed is that there was a lot of quotes by people all over the world sharing their experience with prices getting higher and how they have trouble buying food & they have to eat expired food and old food that has been in their fridge. what really confused me when a person said ''i don't see how a young family makes it'' but i pretty sure that they mean having a baby at a young age like 15 or 16 and i would just like to say that just because you have a baby at a young age does not mean that you are not responsible, but anyways when a store sees that people are buying a lot of an item then they will up the pricwe fot more money.

Inflation rates - E. R

If someone were to work 8 hours a day and make 10 dollars a day they would only be making 80 dollars a day without taxes. Now if this person were to work 365 days a year ( 1 whole year ) they would only make less than 29,200 dollars with taxes. Now say that you lived in a household with only 1 other person and you both worked the same job and made the same pay. By the end of the year you would only have made less than 58,400 dollars with taxes. Now say you lived in a house where you had to pay 5,000 dollars a year for rent that’s only less than 53,40 dollars for your expenses for the rest of the year ( phones, grocery’s, electricity, etc ). This means that if you worked minimum wage you would barely have enough money to pay for your essential items a year. Also if someone were to make 13,000 dollars a year and they spent 5,000 dollars a year for groceries which would be 16% of their pay. However if someone were to make 124,000 a year and if they spent 15,000 dollars a year for groceries they would only be spending 12% of their pay so in conclusion of this sentence inflation is effecting people who make minimum wage more than people who make 6 figures a year.

I could talk to people about inflation so I can educate others and talk about inflation to others. Me, myself I can't do anything. My Brisk iced tea used to be a dollar wich is why I buy it a lot because it's cheaper than all the other drinks for a liter. But now it costs 1.50$ because of inflation. I'll keep drinking it because everything else is going up, it's still good. The price increased by 50%, i'll have to not buy it as much. I get $10 a week to take out my neighbors trash so I used to be able to get 10 iced teas per week. Now I'll only be able to get 6 per week. Almost a 50% decrease in amount I could get.

We can get this bottle of milk or this other one for much cheaper. Inflation could hurt my family because my dad is unemployed.

After this project, inflation probably seems less scary if you have money. It really impacts the middle class and those living in poverty. This project really put it into perspective how much inflation impact the average working family. They spent overall 4% more than the wealthy which turns out to be a lot of money. Some people have to cut back on essential items like food-and this is really sad. some people just have to deal with it but overall they're okay. something I'm excited to do at our school is share my thinking and see how we can help families with costs of dances and events due to inflation. we're also thinking of maybe sharing some information on our morning announcements to spread more awareness on why things cost more. A
