Some of the objectives seen today were specific while some were not. Overall the topics were given and the lessons were aligned with the objective. Some teachers used "I can" statements and "Students will" statements, others chose to get straight to the point and the objective did not have too many words.

Overall many of our rooms had objectives posted. They were typically in student friendly language. Only one listed a standard. Many rooms had agendas in addition to objectives. None were written in essential question format, they were more statements or directives. The most successful ones appeared to have a standard location where the objective would always be located.

Roughly 50% of the classrooms visited had objectives posted. A variety of formats were used, but most were in student friendly language. The ones that used "students will be able to..." or an essential question were exemplars. Most rooms had agendas posted as well. Having a specific location for the objective was really helpful and indicated that objectives were something that were posted daily and ensured that students didn't have to search for it. Making sure things are legible from the back of the classroom is key. It would be helpful to have some consistent visuals in all classrooms so that students know where to look, like a target. It is important to note that as we move to more blended environments and head toward 1:1, objectives may not be on the board, they may be inside Canvas, etc.
