My goal from this PD is to get a deeper understanding and connection of Social-emotional and learn more tips on incorporating it into my classroom. I chose this PD because social-emotional skills are essential, especially since I'm in a school with kindergarten through 3rd-grade students. I think it's necessary for them to know how to regulate their emotions.

The PD begins by explaining the importance of social-emotional learning. It explains that SEL is the process that people of all ages use to regulate emotions, accomplish goals, be empathetic, build relationships, and make positive connections. These factors are essential for students to learn from a young age so that they can overcome obstacles in the future.

It's important that teachers check in with their students to see how they are feeling. As a teacher, it's essential that you know how to guide any situation and can guide these students. Check-ins could be done on a one-on-one class survey or by having the students write on paper about how they have been feeling recently. Doing this can help teachers know about their emotions and how to regulate them.

This PD was a great learning experience for me and gave me more ideas on how I'm able to incorporate SEL into my classroom. The PD gave me the idea to share this information with colleagues as well because SEL is an important skill for students, especially since we have a classroom with K-thrid and another with fourth and fifth graders. SEL is something that will help them in the long run, and it is better to develop this skill when they are young.
