Naomi's impact as a person of color and activist can be felt outside the tennis community. It is well known that she advocates for marginalized peoples not only inside the tennis community, but also in the realm of skin care. Skin care and skin care brands are a passion of mine, when I found KINLO, Osaka's brand of sunscreen, marketed to be brown skin friendly, I was exited. KINLO and Osaka pushed the boundaries for what it means to be involved in the larger beauty community, by simply creating a product that does not leave a white residue when applying sunscreen, making it more accessible and available for all. This is important because she used her platform in a very unique channel to engage in critical conversations on how people of color are being left out of communities that they deserve a place in. To me this represents the pillar of community building in a diverse society because her social position created active change.

Though the image at first seems a bit vulgar at first glance, this is one way a leader in their community chose to address the issue of the aids pandemic by spreading information on disease prevention in an artistic and creative manner. This was one of the first and largest online demonstrations of citizenship worldwide. More than 17 million videos of people pouring ice water on themselves as a mean to raise money and awareness for this disease was spread within the span of a few months. This worldwide phenomenon connected the larger community for the purpose of one goal, and people who participated are surely considered engaged citizens for their active role in a global sensation. Coolidge, an engineer, developed this tool not only to help his peers, but also future generations of medical professionals. Through his personal understanding of engineering, he created a product that solved a prevalent issue (radiation poisoning), and allowed for future innovation in this subject. It is customary for first ladies to focus their efforts in organizations that serve the larger American community, which are acts of community service. This tradition begins with efforts as early as Martha Washington raising funds for revolutionary efforts. Michelle Obama is known for efforts to improve the health of America's children through her organization (Let's Move!). What separates normal community service from community service, I believe, is an emphasis on addressing social issues and educating others as well as yourself on this subject.
