We had just considered the different types of symbolism that we could encounter in a Literature text, and thought of/ matched examples of symbolism with these categories. Following this, we had a TOK moment and considered how symbols are perceived by different cultures, time periods and how they are often dependent upon cultural reference. We also thought about how symbolism can be problematic along by considering some symbols through race, gender and religious lenses. -- Iain Davis

In today’s Math lesson, we started a new topic on the application of trigonometry to 3D shapes. We began by reviewing the properties of 3D shapes, revisiting their classification as solids.

Our discussion then shifted to the Platonic solids. We discussed that their discovery was significant in the development of geometry and mathematical thinking;

Platonic solids not only played a crucial role in the development of geometry but also continue to influence modern science, from chemistry to architecture, and even in the study of the universe's structure. Their contribution lies in providing an essential understanding of symmetry, space, and mathematical patterns that are applied in various real-world scenarios, from molecular shapes to engineering designs.

Be a Thinker - TOK link and debate. I use this in my lessons to probe thinking as a challenge task - Questioning theories - incorporation of themes such as philosophy and science helps students when it comes to questioning evidence for essay and exhibition.

We have been learning about various psychological theories applicable to the sporting world, specifically from a coach's and athlete's perspective.

The theories we have been focusing on relate to the various types of motivation individuals can have; whether they are task- or ego-oriented (Goal Orientation Theory); as well as whether they are more concerned with wanting to succeed or wanting to avoid failure. (Attribution Theory). Discussions centered on how understanding these theories can enhance the relationship between athletes and coaches, specifically in practices (beginners vs professionals) and in competitive environments, depending on the outcome (win, loss, PB, injury, etc.).

In this activity, we looked at how chemical systems try to reach a state of balance, or equilibrium. The discussion was focused on a common assumption in equilibrium calculations: when the value of K(the equilibrium constant) is very small, we assume that the change in reactant concentration is so tiny it can be ignored .We Explored how this assumption can go in two ways How assumptions help-by making complex topics easy and How assumptions can mislead to give incorrect conclusions.

Through this discussions we explored ,that assumptions are useful tools in science, but they come with limitations. If assumptions aren’t carefully checked, they might lead to errors or oversimplify what’s really happening.
