Candida albicans is a yeast fungus that lives in our body and if overproduction happens it can cause what we call thrush or a vaginal yeast infection.

The two types of candida albicans which are also known as vaginal and oral yeast infections can be transmitted through anyone by direct or indirect contact with a contaminated object or person. Direct contact could be through saliva, vaginal fluids, and skin while indirect contact can be transmitted through sharing towels and bedding.

Oral Thrush is the build up of Candida albicans in mouth and throat. This can be transmitted by a mother that is breastfeeding her baby and has a yeast infection in her breast, or someone kisses a child transmitting the infection through saliva. Although it isn't common for adults to catch it, young babies that have a weak immune system can catch it very easily.

Due to the way our anatomy is made, it's harder to keep our genitalia from getting yeast infections. There are many other ways to help as well such as bathing before sexual activity with your partner and not continuously changing soaps and detergents that you wash with.
