The first thing that I have learned in this class to put into my future classroom is enactive learning activities. I have seen teachers use activities like brain breaks in the classroom to get their students’ energy out, but I rarely see teachers using movement to incorporate music into actual content. However, as the author said in our book “The Musical Classroom: Backgrounds, Models, and Skills for Elementary Teaching”, children use their bodies to interpret and understand ideas from around them. In my classroom, I could use the get to know you songs that I watched in the videos for my observation report at the beginning of the year to get the students familiar with both me and their peers. In addition, I could also do something like the rainstorm activity that Miss Potter showed the class in a science or weather unit or a counting apples song in a mathematics lesson. Another thing that I have learned in this class is about different classroom management strategies from our book “The First Days of School: How to be an Effective Teacher” Something that I thought was really important that will help me in the future is knowing that teacher effectiveness is the biggest determiner of how students are going to do and that all starts with how you present yourself. In my classroom, I will always look my very best, smile, and put more effort into becoming an effective teacher instead of focusing so much on new programs, like the authors suggested. I had never heard that about teacher effectiveness before, so I will definitely remember and implement that in my future classroom.

The first thing I have taken away from this class are the differences between enactive learning, iconic learning, and symbolic learning. One of my favorites so far is enactive learning because students can act out concepts and are able to physically connect within themselves and to the class. One of my favorite examples that we did in class was the "Rainstorm" learning activity in which all the students stood in a circle watching the teacher do different movements with her hands indicating the specific weather. I would love to implement that in my future early childhood classroom because it is such a great example to teach students about the weather. Doing arm and body movements show melodic contour and it can really help students describe what the weather is like outside based upon that movement if they do not know how to describe it verbally. The second thing I have taken away from this class are the four elements of music, which are rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. As referenced from the screencasts we listened to, "rhythm" is the pattern of short and long sounds or silences. Within a rhythm is the "steady beat" in which is the pulse or the time between two sounds is the same. The second element is "melody" which are a series of pitches that form the main part of the song. The third element is "form" and that is the outline of the obvious parts of a piece of music that are alike and/or different. Lastly, the fourth element is the "harmony" which is when two or more sounds occur simultaneously or in other words the notes sound well together to create a harmony. I would love to implement these four elements in my future early childhood classroom because there are so many different ways to teach each element to a grade as low as preschool. The enactive activity that we did in class was called the "Seven Jumps." I thought that activity was a great example to teach students the short and long notes to the song, while also moving around to the beat. Students are able to listen to the patterns in the music and moving without any vocal sounds. When we did it class, I thought it was a fun and engaging way to get the students out of their seats while also still learning. I would love to try out some of these fun enactive activities, songs, and chants that we have done in class so far in my future early childhood classroom.

Although I have learned so many wonderful music activities to integrate into my music classroom, the main thing I have absorbed in the short time in this class is how one presents themselves and the way you see others. I can vividly remember the way most of my teachers dressed while I was in elementary school. I looked forward to seeing what fun dress my 3rd grade teacher had on or the bright, collared shirt my 5th grade teacher wore. Not only did I look up to them because they were adults, but I admired them for how professional ("fancy") they looked to me. I will most definitely take this crucial aspect away from this class and ensure I am physically put together every day in the classroom. Not only do I believe it is important to show that to the students, but it is also vital to make a good impression with co-workers. An additional aspect I truly hope to be able to adopt myself is a consistently calm voice. I would like to think that I have a welcoming voice, but I do admit that I allow emotions to take over before I think through a situation. This results in a raised, harsh voice. I want my students to feel safe, loved, and listened to and coming across composed and calm will surely help me reach that goal. Furthermore, if I ever do have to raise my voice, that will hopefully show how serious the matter is due to the fact I rarely talk above a speaking voice.

The first thing I have taken away from this class is that outside of music class, you can Incorporate many musical and enactive learning activities in your classroom. I have already learned so many activities that I plan to use in my future elementary classroom. These activities are so important for students because it gets them out of their seats and interacting with other students. Ba-Da-Bingo and the game we played last week with the matching cards are two great games to play in the classroom when reviewing materials. My favorite activity so far was the rainstorm activity. I plan on using this activity in my classroom when we are doing a unit over weather. The second thing I have taken away from my learning in this classroom is how important it is to be professional every day. By this I mean the way I present my self to my class such as what I am wearing, the tone of voice I am using and if I have a plan when I walk into class. These are all important ideas that may have an impact on each students learning experience. Every day I need to go into class with a plan and multiple back up plans.

I have learned so many things that I plan to implement in my future classroom. Firstly, I plan to incorporate many physical activities in my classroom so that my students have an opportunity to learn through movement. I remember constantly sitting in my desk in elementary school, and I feel that was not always effective. In order to be an effective teacher, I believe it is important to incorporate different teaching strategies, and for me, that includes incorporating physical movement to enhance enactive learning. A second concept I plan to implement is a positive environment. While I have always planned to create this, I have learned more and more things that can be incorporated. Firstly, I do not have to raise my voice to get the attention of my students. Using activities such as "smile if you can hear my voice" or "clap twice if you can hear my voice" are effective strategies that will help the students know when it is time to listen to me. These strategies are also great to help transition from one activity to another or to calm students down if we were doing a particularly stimulating activity.

The first thing that I have learn from class is many interesting musical activities. I will apply these activities in my future class. Most of activities need students to learn by their movements. It is a good way to combine music with recess. Children love recess. They always have extra energy, so I will encourage my students to respond musical direction through movement. I really like Bingo game which can provide students an opportunity to review their knowledges and practice communication skills. The second thing I have taken away for my learning in this class is how to attract students’ attentions. Raising voice is not an effective way to attract students’ attention while it is not good for a teacher. I will ask students to think about class norms, and tell them some gestures of directions. For example, when teacher hands up, it means students need to stop their movements and watch teacher.

There are principles, activities, attitudes, etc. that I think will make my future classroom a very positive environment. The first thing I will take away to implement in my future classroom in the use of enactive activities. Using movement and music is great for students' learning in so many ways. For example, engagement and coherency between classes are just a couple ways that movement and music can be useful in my future classroom. Another thing I hope to implement in my future classroom is the use of a calm voice. I know that using a calm voice will create a positive and welcoming environment in my classroom which is exactly what I want. I also expect it to help teach my students strong listening skills. If I am using a quiet voice when they are loud, they will have to practice and work a lot harder to hear what I am saying. This is a great classroom management skill. There are many other things I have learned that I hope to use in my future classroom, but these are a few that have really stood out to me.

So far I have really enjoyed this class and the teaching techniques we have learned! The biggest thing that I will implement in my classroom is the use of movement and communication. Students need to do more than sit in a desk all day and stare at a screen or piece of paper. They learn better when they can participate in enactive learning or share and collaborate with peers. Another tool that I will implement in my classroom is more of a piece of classroom management. I never realized the impact a teacher's voice had on classroom. I always thought a teacher had to speak in a bold, loud voice so all students could hear. In reality, a teacher only needs to speak at the bare minimum that everyone can hear. By not speaking too loudly, students are engaged because they have to listen closely. This is another thing I will focus on in my classroom.

I have really enjoyed class so far and all of the strategies we have discussed in class. I also believe I have learned a lot from your classroom management skills. You always have control of a class but in a different way from most teachers style. You never raise your voice which I really respect. You also stay moving and do not stand in one spot. I believe this makes class much more exciting. I also love the way you incorporate hands on activities. Class is so much more exciting when we are up and moving. I believe I learn better when I learn from hands on activites.

Although we have not had many in class meeting sessions because of weather, I feel that I have already learned so much from MEMT 341. One thing that really resonates with me is the fact that I never need to raise my voice in my classroom. The thought had crossed my mind that I do not have a voice that projects very well and how this would play into being a teacher. After this class, I am always going to keep in mind the "Smile if you can hear me" line. I will also remember to keep my voice at a steady speaking level without raising it. Another thing that I can take away from my learning and use in my elementary classroom is the card matching activity. I thought this was a great way to review concepts across many subjects and get my students actively interacting with other students. As we have discussed many times, movement is extremely important to implement in the general elementary classroom. The card activity is a great mix between academic and movement.

Though we have only had a few classes, there are many things that I have taken away from this class to help me in the future in my classroom. A few things that have stuck with me thus far have to do with how to incorporate enactive learning into my teaching and how to effectively communicate with children. This class has shown me how effective enactive learning can be to a child and how there are many ways that it can be taught. The rainstorm activity is the one activity that sticks out to me the most with enactive learning because I think it is a great example of how children can learn about the rain or the concept of weather through physically acting out the elements of it. It is much more beneficial for them to get up and move to learn rather than having to sit down and work on a sheet of paper about the rain. Along with that activity, I learned how to teach different songs and concepts through enactive learning. The key component in all of it is movement. Children need the movement not only to be able to get up and move around, but a lot of times it is helpful for children to learn movement, it s easier for them to grasp onto things. This class is giving me many ways to teach music and different concepts through movement and promote enactive learning. The other thing that I have learned from this class is how effectively communicate with children. I have realized that when talking to or teaching children, it is very important that we tell them exactly what is expected of them because if we as teachers do not tell them exactly what is expected then they will not do what they want them to do or they will do whatever they want to do. One way to do that is when giving instructions to an activity, show them exactly what they have to do and how to do it. For example, when we did the Five Little Pumpkins song, the teacher, went over the different kind of voices to use in the classroom such as whisper, talking, singing, and outside voice, and told as well as modeled for us the students which voice we needed to us for each part of the song. By doing that, it shows the students the correct way to sing the song and that way there isn't so much chaos among them when doing the song. This also give me the ability to maintain an environment where I do not have to raise the voice with my students, I am able to use a calm voice that allows me to reach my students in an effective, yet responsive way. I want my children to feel that they are heard while also understanding what is expected of them in the classroom, and the way to do that is through expression. I plan to be as communicative and calm as I can with my future students. These are just a few things upon the many things that I have learned thus far in this MEMT class that I know I can take with me to incorporate into my future classroom.

With the few classes that we have had so far, I have already learned so much. One thing that I know I can use for my future elementary classroom is incorporating the three modes of learning for students. I personally enjoy learning about and teaching enactive activities. Movement can really expand students' learning abilities. Especially with music, I believe that enactive activities can allow students to engage and participate more. Not all students are going to enjoy enactive activities, however. That's why as a teacher, I will make it a priority to incorporate iconic and symbolic learning as well. It's all about knowing my students and knowing their learning strategies. Another thing I will take away for my future classroom is making sure that I instill the three characteristics of an effective teacher. I vow to be positive, be an effective classroom manager, and learn how to create lessons for students' mastery. I just want to be that teacher that has it all together while being a role model that my students can trust.

Over the past couple of weeks I have seen and learned a lot of strategies that I am excited to get to implement in my teaching. The first one is the use of music and movement in the classroom. Before this class the only time I had seen music used in the classroom outside of music class was brain breaks and just playing music while students were working. The methods I have learned in this class so far really show ways to incorporate all students into learning and provide different methods to engage students in different areas of learning through music. Another thing which I mentioned in my tweet last week is the classroom management strategies. We have learned a variety of strategies that have showed us that you can manage a classroom without even having to raise your voice. We have also seen a way to manage activities by giving all instructions before starting any activities to avoid any confusion and keep students in their seats and not running around without instructions.

Even if we've only had class 2 times due to weather. One major take away is classroom management. I have learned so many great tips that I will bring into the classroom. This is one thing I have found myself to struggle with now working with children is classroom management. Mainly because I work with a range of ages and managing the different age groups have a great difference. I have learned how to talk to students in a way not only they can benefit from but so can I. The last few classes have also had such great activities that I enjoy participating in with my peers. It makes me excited to bring them into my future classroom as well. The one activity I have liked the most thus far is the bubble activity. Before doing this I did not know there could be such a calm and relaxing activity that is still a bunch of fun. I like this one the most because it can calm students down but also get them up on their feet and move to some music.

These past few weeks in MEMT 341 have taught me so much about what I can implement in my classroom. One thing that I will definitely use is the use of teaching musical concepts to focus students attention. Last class, as we were doing the bubble activity, I was in awe of how such a simply little activity involving movement could completely calm my mood and relax myself. This was an activity where were standing up, moving our bodies, using our imagination, and having fun. All the while using it as a strategy to create peace and a sense of calmness in our students bodies. I think that this activity would be perfect for those days when my students are a bit on the wild side. Something else that I have taken away is how important enactive learning activities are in the classroom. Enactive learning activities not only gets the students up and moving but it also allows for peer collaboration and offers a better way for teachers to teach concepts with physical engagement. I think that it is so important that students are getting the opportunity to get up and moving in the classroom and not just sitting in their seats all day, and what better way to do this than to incorporate learning with movement. This class has already taught me so many things about the use of music and movement within the classroom and I will most definitely implement these strategies into my classroom.

So far I have really enjoyed what we've been learning in class. I think that movement is very important for students to maintain focus and also to learn concepts. Each class I find something new to use in my future elementary classroom. I particularly like the bubble activity we did, and I am hoping to use this when students need to calm down or get ready to sit down and read or take a test. This could be utilized as a whole class, or even with just one or a small group of students who specifically need to calm their bodies and minds. I also really liked the activity we did when we were all given a slip of paper that either had a concept or its definition, and we had to find the person with the other half. This is a really great tool to use to review in any subject. This can be used in the same way that we did in class, to go over concepts that we learned in the reading for that day. Other examples of ways that I can envision myself using this techniques would be remembering states' capitals, historical people or events, math equations, vocabulary words and definitions, synonyms, antonyms, different science concepts such as geographical climates and so much more. This activity could also be used to establish partners for activities. For example, if I used this during math, the cards would have equations from what we worked on yesterday or recently, and the person who has your matching card is your partner for the activity for this day. This activity and the bubble activity are my two favorite things that I've taken away from this class so far.

At this point in MEMT 341, I am able to take two things away from this class and be able to implement them into my future elementary classroom. The first thing is the types of learning. Enactice and Iconic are types of learning that can be used within the classroom. By knowing this, I can change the way I am teaching to make sure each student is grasping the concepts if they weren't from the previous teaching style. It also keeps the lessons interesting. Another thing I've learned from class that can be used in my future classroom are activities. By learning and doing activities like the "7 jumps" or "bubble" ones I can now replicate it in my future classroom. These activities allows students to learn body movement. It also allows the students to take a brain break that will allow them to refocus on the lessons being taught.

I think to things that I can take from the course so far are symbolic and enactive learning. I think that symbolic learning is very important to music because children associate music notes with a staff that they see in their class. This helps them become familiar with different types of notes. I would try to implement this in my future elementary school classroom by showing music notes that represent sounds for the children to be able to see around the class. It would resemble a word wall of sorts, but be more like a sound wall. As far as enactive learning, I think that movement is very important to learning in the classroom. I will take this into my classroom by giving the children different types of brain breaks. I would live to incorporate athletics into learning a song or a brain break because this will help the children with getting all of the "jitters" out of their system while still learning a concept in the classroom.

At this point in MEMT 341, I have learned so much. Two of the things I am most excited to implement in my future classroom include the different types of learning, specifically enactive learning, and the ability to incorporate music into daily lessons. Before this class, I had never heard the term "enactive learning" but now that I am able to identify it, I believe it to be very important and useful in an elementary classroom. Many of my future students will have different learning styles, and some may learn best by doing. So, enactive learning will allow me to help those students who need to take "brain breaks," exercise often, or physically act on the lesson to better learn. Secondly, this class has already taught me so many ways to incorporate music into everyday lessons. I have especially enjoyed the "Bubble" activity we did in class last week. I think this would be a great way to calm students down after a wild recess, gym class, lunch, or the end of a busy day. Also, the rainstorm activity that we did in the first class was a really enjoyable way to review weather terms with students and would be a great start to a science unity.

I believe this class has taught me many things that I will be able to take with me to put towards my future classroom. Before this class I never realized that music can be incorporated into a general education classroom. Now once I have started this class, I have realized the immense impact music can have on students in general if incorporated throughout the day. I believe an important thing that I have learned is the difference between enactive, inactive, and symbolic learning. I believe all these types of learning need to have a part in the classroom so it is very important to use them in your lessons and in your classroom as a whole. Going along with these types of learning, I enjoyed learning about the games last weak. I think these musical games give students many skills like working in a group to stay on task. I will use these in my future elementary school classroom because I believe they can be incorporated even more to help with reviewing a subject as well as just a brain-break.

I believe that everything that Miss Potter has taught us so far have all been beneficial tools that we as future educators can utilize in our classrooms. I took away a lot from the songs, movement, and games that we have participated in during class. I know that my students learning styles may vary, however, I have already learned a wealth amount of skills in this short period of time, that I believe I will have the knowledge to best support all of my students. Prior to taking this course, I was not familiar with enactive learning. Now that I have learned about this method and ways to incorporate it in the classroom, I am planning on orchestrating brain breaks with movement to get the students to take a break to get all of their silly energy out. Thus, the students can go back to their lesson while being attentive and have their bodies be calm.

It has two things i want to talk about when I take MEMT class. The first thing is use activities to teach music, before i take this class, I always think that music class only have music and music instrument, and people who do not interested in listen music or music instruments, it will be hard to let students pay attention to class, but after different kinds of music things, it will be good let students can take part in class, and let students think learn music not only listen music and play instruments. The second thing I want to talk about is movement, before this class, I am not familiar with this concept, and I also think it must be have connection with some specific rhythm, but after I touch this, and I started to understand that movement can use in any times during music class. It also will be good that combine the movement and class activities and then can let students feel class is very useful and interesting ,then can let students want to learn music, the activities can work in whole class, work in a group, or work in pairs.

There are two very beneficial things that I have taken away from this class. This first being Enactive learning, growing up in a Montessori program I am very used to movement and hands on learning. So learning a new way to teach where myself as well as students will enjoy it makes me feel more comfortable to be in an elementary classroom. The next thing I learned is just what a typical music class looks like in an elementary school. I haven’t set foot in an elementary music classroom in at least 12 years so really getting an inside from the professors as well as watching videos have made me aware of how students are taught. I also learned what I can expect my students to be learning so I can be prepared to co teach with the music teacher when I get inside the classroom.

In our in-class activities and in our readings for MENT 341 this semester, majority of our content has been learning about enactive learning. This is learning through movement. I have realized how important it is to involve movement in my teaching especially when working with young students. They need the movement to keep them engaged in the learning and to get some of their constant energy out. This can be done by creating dance moves to songs, marching to the beat of a song, doing partner/circle/group activities, and by using bodies to act something out or represent something. All of these will be super helpful ways for me to incorporate movement into my teaching when I have my own class. Another thing that I have learned in this class is that when you use movement to teach a lesson, it can often times get student riled up. Therefore, it is important that after you do an energetic activity you end with a calming and relaxing activity to let the students settle down. I never thought about this before but it really is important for all classes. If the students are just coming back from recess, I can do the “bubble” activity we learned in class to relax them and let them settle down. As the teacher in these activities it is important that I talk very quietly and softly and play gentle music. When working with young students, movement is a great way to teach any lesson and can be incorporated in almost anything. Through hyper activities, and relaxing activities, the students are learning and having fun at the same time.

Even though we have only been in class for a short time, I have nonetheless learned a great deal as we do a lot in each class period. Among what I have learned, there are two things that stick out to me the most that I would absolutely implement in my future classroom. The first thing is the classroom management skills that have been demonstrated. One management skill I find very useful is being able to quiet the class down without raising your own voice. This is something I would love to learn how to do. Another management skill that I know will be very useful is giving specific instructions so that students proceed in an orderly manner. For example, when we are told to go back to our seats after doing an activity, we are always told to do so “calmly and quietly.” Even if students are already in the habit of doing this, I think the reminder is still a good idea to reinforce the behavior. The other thing I have learned from this class that stuck out to me was the review activity where we were each given a paper and had to find another that matched. I think that this is an excellent activity for reviewing material as it can work with just about any topic or subject, and it is also good for encouraging students to interact with many other classmates.

This class so far has taught me many things that I wasn't aware of. I learned in this class how to make classrooms fun for the students. Making that learning easy for them with music and moving around. I did not get to experience learning this way but, I would definitely include things I am learning in this class in my future classroom. Enactive learning- learning though movements, if the students are active their brains are active and ready to learn making education easy to grasp and remember it for long term. I also learned how to get students involve in activities with each other, all the songs that we together, giving everyone a chance to be a leader, making new partners, small things with big impact. These things may seem like just a fun song but when they learn the concept behind it without even knowing. That is the most important part. Every lesson can be taught with a song, those can include all different types of learning- symbolic, iconic, and enactive. Everything I learn in this class is new and unique for me and I am sure I will be including most of the things in my future classroom.

Thought out my time in MEMT 341, I have learned two main concepts that I plan on carrying over into my early childhood classroom. The biggest concept I will take into my classroom is our learnings about classroom management. I have already started to take some of our learnings and use them in the preschool classroom where I teach. However the classroom management skill I am most excited to improve on is being able to keep a calm and quiet voice while trying to control a classroom. At the moment, that seems to be my hardest concept to grasp. However, this might change after I learn more of a mixture of classroom management. I have also started to use a quiet singing voice when talking to the classroom as a whole, and it is starting to resonate with the students. The second concept I plan on implementing into my classroom is the usage of enactive learning. A student being hands-on with a lesson seems to be one of the most effective ways for them to learning. Acting out their lesson gives them another mean of learning besides sitting down and figuring out problems on a worksheet. Enactive learning does not just have to involve music. Children can also act out different lessons involving other concepts. I plan on incorporating it on learning other subjects, such as math or literature, with the assistance of music.

At this point in this course, I have learned a lot about how to implement music into everyday aspects of a classroom. My previous experience with music was a separate classroom environment with completely different concepts and perspectives. This class has so far taught me that music is something that can and should be implemented frequently in the classroom. Along with the overarching concept of using music in a typical classroom setting, I have also learned many new ideas and strategies for classroom management. While our previous teaching classes have taught us some about classroom management, I have found that this class has taught me more about how to earn the respect from students so classroom management is more of an assumed aspect of the classroom. Working with students is as much about you teaching them as them teaching you and that is done with the foundation of classroom management.

Two things that have stood out to me the most though is the way you can use music to tame your students energy levels and the way music can help make learning fun! The way music can tame energy levels is by letting the students get to be physical active; dancing and acting out the lyrics is a great way for students to work out some energy. Also, another way students can tame their energy is by playing a slow paced song; this can calm the students down. I look forward to using these techniques in my future classroom when I feel my students need it. I also look forward to using music as a fun way to learn about topics such as rhythm and pattern.
