Over the past few years, there has been increasing demand for people, especially women to look like the ideal beauty, who is perfect in every way according to the standards set by human nature. With the rise of unrealistic beauty ideals, there is pressure for people to look as youthful as possible. As a result, people are willing to torture themselves through practices such as strict diets or going through painful procedures to achieve that ideal beauty. In social media, digital modifications are so prominent because "beauty ideals are deeply embedded in our aspirations, practices, and in our construction of ourselves" ( Mac Callum, Widdows 1). Thus we cannot stop this madness by simply being aware of the trends. In fact, the more people are aware of the modifications through media literacy and labeling, the more it enhances their desire to be the ideal portrayed. Beauty ideals are problems so rooted in today's society that digital alterations to achieve a such form of perfection are now expected in fashion. It's no wonder that ordinary women try every means to achieve that unrealistic level of perfection as a result of body dissatisfaction. It is important to note that there is a "psychological and philosophical account for the allure of such beauty ideals" (2) that is embedded in the way society functions.

So far in the project, I have a lot of new information that answers my question about how people are obsessed with looking like beauty ideals. I have narrowed it down focusing on women more than men because I have noticed how women are more victimized than men to reach unrealistic beauty standards. Media plays a huge role in this obsession people have. However, I want to find other causes of this obsession to make the argument more strong. I will need to research further and a little deeper to find the answers to the sub-questions too. One problem in this article was the lack of counterarguments which lead to a lack of complexity. Thus I am hoping to find other articles that are more complex than this allowing me to go deeper into the different perspectives on the topic. Having the counterargument will also make the paper stronger by allowing us to look at the other possibility. Having the counterargument would also allow to me answer the potential questions readers might have when reading the paper itself. There were also no “solutions'” in the article about what can be done about the problem so I want to find more articles that talk about what can we do to resolve or lessen the problem. I am also not sure about the background, I feel like I am missing something so hopefully, further research will help me add to the background too. Overall, this was a good starting point to write an answer to the research question.
