I noticed that my fountain pen ink is not permanent and I like the way that the line 'blurs' when water is added. Mostly vertical movements are evident within the gestural marks. I think that this page could be cut up to create some interesting textural variations. It was an improvisational process. I laid the big red square down and then balanced the other shapes around and on top of it. I used a red China marker line to unify the design a bit. I don’t typically work with collage and found that I really enjoy the process. More to come….Remember, you need three variations AND a completed composition.   • curved and swirling marks with a medium round brush in blue, red, and purple watercolor
  • semi-solid watercolor backgrounds with a medium flat brush in blue and green watercolor, overlaid with India ink marks with dabbed and pulled toothbrush
  • blue and black watercolor pooled with a round brush and the run by holding the paper vertically
  • catching the blue watercolor drips on newsprint
  • blended blue, purple, and orange pastels
  • both linear crosshatched and curved scratch-like marks with India ink on a toothbrush
All pieces are on white paper, with the exception of the newsprint piece as noted above

(See design just below this one). The result is a shift from the elegant rightward movement with harmonious curves of the previous design to a more powerful and chaotic movement, as though the forms are moving like an avalanche, pushing each other and the new heavier form rightward.
