Lincoln was originally the president of the north during the civil was but when the war was finished he was re-elected as the president of the whole United States. Lincoln is credited with the abolishment of slavery. On January 31, 1865 congress voted to abolish slavery. The south however was not hoppy about this decision. The south decided to fight. The battle of Gettysburg was the largest battle in the civil war and lasted 3 days. There were over 50,000 casualties which made the confederate troops to retreat. This was the turning point that led the union to be victorious in the war.
