As an elementary schooler I loved reading. My mother was, and still is, an avid reader so she introduced me to the bookworm lifestyle early. She would often read chapter books aloud to my brother and I before we could read them ourselves. The first books I really enjoyed reading by myself were The Magic Treehouse books. I would read at least one of these books a day. I loved the fantasy genre when I was this age because they made anything possible. These books quenched my thirst for adventure and my need to believe that adventure is out there.

In fifth grade I made a life changing discovery in the form of a 7 book series. I first discovered Harry Potter in fifth grade and shortly after began devouring the books one by one. My friends and I would read the books at the same time and then discuss the plots and underlying themes in the cafeteria during lunch (nerdy I know). This series has meant so much to me and i don't know why specifically, I just know that I have been that kid waiting for my Hogwarts letter since i was 11. I still re read these books to this day because every time I read them i either take away a new lesson or find a new hidden tidbit i can explore.

In high school my love for reading died out a little bit because of the amount of reading i was forced to participate in. I still loved books but i lost the desire and thirst for reading and soon found myself only reading when it was required. I enjoyed the idea of annotating a book and really diving into the hidden content, but the task itself was never enjoyable. I think the best way to sum up my high school reading is through the book The Lord of the Flies. I hated this book. Like I truly despised this book. This was the first book i was assigned to read my freshman year, so my love for reading was surpressed right when i entered high school. I didn't enjoy this book because the plot line was disturbing and my teacher made reading this novel a laborious task. I include this book in my lineage because it really affected how I felt towards reading for pleasure.

After being in college I have resound my love for books. I have actually made it my goal to try to read all the classics so I have a good foundation going into my teaching career. I think reading is a great escape from the real world and a way to find yourself when you don't know where to look. The book I am currently read is Great Expectations and i have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.
