Remote Patient Monitoring, or RPM is a type of patient monitoring that allows healthcare providers to monitor their patients outside of the traditional clinical setting. As time evolves, technologies such as Telehealth, virtual visits, and other advances are becoming more popular and appealing to patients. RPM gives patients convenience and the flexibility to be in control of their health from home. Per Insider Intelligence, by 2024, an estimated 30 million U.S. patients will use remote patient monitoring (Wordpress, 2023).

I have never been in the position to use RPM personally, but I do have grandparents that I think would be great candidates for it. There are a lot of patients in the older generation that just simply don't want to get out and go to a doctor's office. A lot of times, this is the driving factor for no-shows and cancellations. My grandparents tell me all the time that they "just don't feel like driving that far" when asked about making it to their doctor appointments. RPM would give them the convenience and comfort of being in their own home while also seeing a provider for needed health concerns. With the way technology is moving, I think RPM is a great innovation and will continue to improve patient outcomes.
