My simply stopping and greeting each student at the door, asking them a questions such as:"what did you do this weekend? How are you feeling this morning?" all help to create closer bonds with your students as you are showing interest in their lives outside of school. Students can become overwhelmed and depleted after working for hours and hours on solely academic material. Brain breaks such as dance parties, a game of "would you rather" or Simon says helps students to take a break and then refocus their attention later on.
