two important techniques in cleanroom hygiene: spraying and wiping of equipment.

Spraying is recommended for smooth curves surfaces and individual equipment parts, while wiping is recommended for systems and equipment that are difficult to access.

(Both methods depend on the right techniques)

SPRAYING

When spraying, it's important to work from top to bottom and back to front, avoiding pooling and working uniformly without missing any areas or pathogens that may remain on the spots that were not reached. It is best to spray at a lateral angle.

WIPING

Wipes suitable for cleanrooms should be used and wipes should be folded four times to perform multiple wipe cycles with a fresh surface. Fast and circulating movements, scrubbing, and scouring of the surface should be avoided when wiping. The disinfection plan should be referred to for information on when, how often, and with which disinfectants equipment and systems are disinfected.

Overall , i think that this video helped me properly understand the right way to wipe down surfaces as without watching this video i would not know to fold the tissue/wipe over after each wipe. Also , it helped me to properly understand which type of surfaces require spraying and which require wiping.

I think what was challenging in lesson 5 was that since it was my first time gowning, it was chaotic. Because I was struggling to balance on one leg and I also lean against the wall which is wrong.

This video helped me because the first method shown was similar to the method in the SOP where we had to wipe vertically and overlapping each other by 25% from top to bottom. Since it was similar, it gave me greater confidence to do the task itself of wiping the BSC.

The GMP of Cleaning and Disinfecting Cleanrooms

I think that the video helped me understand the importance of being meticulous when cleaning and disinfecting the cleanrooms as multiple precautions were taken to ensure that impurities were avoided as much as possible. Some of the precautions I took away from the video include those listed below.

1) Measure water (injection quality/freshly filtered demineralized) and cleaning agents.

2) Add cleaning agents to water.

3) Never add water to machinery that require separate cleaning (avoids scratching/ chipping or damaging components)

4) Gather components using a brush cleaning cloth/monofilament broom (prevents suspension of impurities)

5) Remove worn plastic/metal filings on moving conveyor belts with one bucket or two bucket system. (one bucket system = single bucket of disinfectant/germicidal cleaner applied on the floors // two bucket system = one bucket with disinfectant, another with water)

The video helped me understand the importance of disinfection and how seriously it's taken in a cleanroom. Prior to the video I did not know that two different airlocks help keep items sterile when brining to the room of operation and that double packaging is required for items in the cleanroom to remain sterile. In lesson 5, I wondered if the item in the cleanroom is sterile why do we still need to sanitize them. The video helped me realize that in cleanrooms we must avoid any possibility of contamination. Furthermore, it helped learn something new where at each airlock a layer of packaging is removed before proceeding as it gets cleaner as we move to the area of operation. I also learnt that disinfectants are poured in a bucket of water before brought into the cleanroom.
