Even though this isn't a direct example of racism, it gets the point across that black people were looked down on, and the topic of them were very controversial. I peeked at Jem: his hands were white from gripping the balcony rail, and his shoulders jerked as if each "guilty" was a separate stab between them" (Lee 240). This form of racism was harmful to Tom Robinson and his family, Atticus, Scout, Jem, and many more. In one way or another, they all experienced racism. Also, during the trial, the jury convicted Tom just because he was black.
