Thank you to everyone that attended our STEAM Festival last week. I enjoyed meeting with so many of you for the first time, and I look forward to getting to know you better, and meeting the rest of you in the coming months. 

The festival was a huge success and our students relished the opportunity to show off their hard work. 

It was a big night for the Snakes and Bears. Not only were we the only Fifth Grade classes to present at the Festival, we also had three students win FIRST PLACE in the Inspirations Contest, that is HUGE!

Congratulations to Sophia Brache-Leon, Jackson Hauley and Kallie Harding for this major achievement!

Moreover, the cast list for the upcoming play was posted at the tail-end of the festival, and more than HALF the class list is comprised of our fantastic students. I am very proud to be teacher to these inspiring little achievers, hats off to the parents that raised them so;)!

Speaking of achievements, ASPIRE is currently up-to-date, with all scores entered for everything turned in so far this term. I plan to keep ASPIRE updates weekly, so feel free to log in and keep tabs of your student’s progress. 

This week we will be diving right into the curriculum for Junior Achievement, in preparation for the JA BizTown Field Trip. Expect to see your student writing their first resume, learning about free market enterprise, innovation and new business development. The will be doing another written assignment award the end of the week about running a business, and may need your hep to direct them to the appropriate information. (Directions included on handout later this week.)

We are starting a new Chapter in Math, Chapter 7, Numerical Expressions and Patterns. Expect to see two homework assignments come home before Friday, I have also attached a copy to this email. The kids will have a quiz midweek on the material we are learning. 

In ELA the kids will be mastering a new set of vocabulary words that pertain to the BizTown curriculum. They will learn how to research for a topic or paper, and learning how to differentiate between reputable media sources and those that should not be trusted. I have also included a handout for parents to continue the lessons at home. Please see the section on "Digital Citizenship" for more info.
