One day he sets off for a jog , unfortunately, things do not turn out well for him. He is picked up by a dog who uses him for fetch. Eventually, he is saved by the owner who puts the dog on a lead. This is how the story goes on with Stick Man stumbling from one precarious situation to another. He is used by a swan to build a nest , holds up a flag on a sandcastle and becomes an arm for a snowman. It looks like he will never get home especially when he is picked up for firewood. However, rescue comes from an unexpected person , Santa!
Age/phase I would use this book with and kind of read: I would use this as a whole class read with a reception class to introduce a unit of work and use it as a whole group discussion. I would introduce the theme of resilience and ask children to think of all the things they could do with sticks. I would use this book for subjects such as PSHE , science and PE. 

3 activities I would teach linking to the book:
1. when stick man tries to escape from the fire he makes lots of different movements such as , stretching , wiggling , hopping and jumping. I would get the children to make sequences and routines using the movements.
2. i could use stick man in pshe as i could ask the children to draw expressions on faces of how they think stick man was feeling at the time of all the events.
3. The local animals ( a rabbit , fox and bird) are curious about what's in his suitcase. The stranger tells them that there's a teacup , table and chair and a little wooden cabin inside where he makes his tea. Fox in particular is very suspicious. While the strange animal sleeps off the exhaustion and dreams of scaling mountains and crossing the ocean. Fox decides to break open the suitcase to reveal a smashed tea cup and a photograph of a strange animal drinking tea in front of the cabin. When the stranger wakes up he is surprised to find that animals have been busy mending his cup and making him a new cabin, table and chair. The book finishes with the animal extending the hand of friendship.
Age/phase I would use this book with and the kind of read: i would use this book with year 2's and with the whole class. We could discuss the themes within the book and also use it to introduce a unit of work. 
3 activities I would teach linking to the book:
1.  I could use the book as an English Lesson and get the children to write a letter pretending they are the creatures family and get them to explain and describe their journey.
2. I could also use the book as a PSHE lesson and discuss themes such as friendships, trust and kindness. Get the children to realise and recognise it's about taking someone at face value when it is impossible to know who they really are or where they come from.
3. I could also use the book as a drama lesson. Asking the children to do hot seating and agony aunt about the different decisions within the book.

The children originally bully him and say that he's weird and different before realising that he escaped conflict this is the reason as to why he moved. Alexa ( the narrator) , Josie , Tom and Michael decide to try and help Ahmet by coming up with an idea to help his family move into the country. 
Age/phase I would use the book with and the kind of read: I would use this book with year 3/4 children. This is because I think they will relate the most to the book as it is set around a class of that age. Also , some themes of the book include friendship due to the character Brendan the bully. Which highlights to the children that everyone should be included and equal. Also when the children give a pomegranate to Ahmet which gives him his first smile suggests that cildren should research different cultures to ensure people feel welcome. The kind of read this would be is a whole class read because the themes in the book can lead to guided classroom discussions to develop their understanding.
3 activities I would link to the book:
1. Writing a letter of persuasive letter the government on behalf of refugees.
2. I could also link this to drama and use hot seating and take the role of Ahmet and ask children to raise questions relating to the book or general topic.
3. I could also use the book as a Geography lesson to look at the cultures and lifestyles of different countries around the world.

Unfortunately , there is a mean wizard lizard living nearby and when he hears about Superworms powers he orders his servant crew to find him and capture him , which he does. The lizard then gets Superworm tunnelling in the soil in order to find lots of hidden treasures for him. All of Superworm's insect friends are dismayed when they find out what has happened and they are determined to set him free. 
Age/phase I would use this book with and the type of read:
I would use this book with 5-7 year olds because it is easy to follow and understand. It also includes illustrations to allow them to understand the text in further detail. The use of rhyme helps children develop phonemic awareness, listening and thinking skills. I would use this book as a whole class read because it can be used as a hook into different units of work.
3 activities I would link to the book:
1. I would use hoola - hoops and ask the children to sort out the animals into different groups.
2. I could link it to an art lesson and ask the children to design a superhero costume.

His oldest brother, big Joe, has damage to his brain and so suffers from some developmental delays but is a kind person who loves animals. His second-oldest brother, Charlie, is an intelligent man and a person of integrity.Thomas begins to feel isolated and excluded due to the growing connection between Molly and Charlie, who fall in love. He later discovers that Charlie and Molly were dating in secret and that she has ended up pregnant. Charlie and Molly marry; Tommo is heartbroken but maintains his connection to them both.Charlie and Thomas are enlisted to fight in the war. Tommo tells the stories of his wartime experiences. Charlie disobeyed Hanley the sergeant and unfortunately Charlie is ordered to be executed. Thomas looks after Molly and the baby in Charlie's honour.
Age/phase i would read this book with and the kind of read: I would read this book to a year 6 class as it has themes in it which are sensitive such as grief , bereavement , war and conflict.

1. I would ask the children to write a diary entry pretending they are Tommo fighting in WWI. I would ask them to include how they are feeling and thinking.
2. The children could also create a fact file about WW1 comparing life then and life now.

Age/phase I would read this book to and the kind of read:
I would read this book to a year 3 class. I would choose this year group because the story has a great moral and teaches children the importance of being kind and helping others. It also teaches them about different family settings other than their own. 
3 activities I would use this book for:
1. I would use this book in a history lesson in order to help the children in developing their timeline skills. This would be completed in small groups. 
2. I would ask the students to create a poster on a computer to encourage people to come and see the Giant Peach. 
3. I would use this book in a science lesson to find out how fruit and vegetables grow. This would be completed by creating a mindmap individually.
