The main prominent one being state of government, where a supreme power controls everything, forcing the poor to farm and mine and provide all the resources to the rich, where the poor can never become rich, and the rich will never become the poor. We know from the books that this government was formed after a massive war, and they were the ones to form a government again. This is classic dystopian, where after a national epidemic occurs, and group takes control and chooses to have absolute power over every one remaining. In the book is it shown that this government has the power to completely obliterate entire districts - tens of thousands of people. And even after a rebellion, as a sort of punishment to the districts they hold a "Hunger Games" every year, where two people from each district are chosen to all fight each other  in an arena to the death.
