During her time, she faced the hindrances set by the adamant Imelda Marcos. This follows the similar struggles that artists at the time all faced.

Marilou Diaz-Abaya's most remarkable works are on the trilogy of feminist films that opens the discussion of how different a woman's life is in a man's world. These works are known to be as Brutal (1980), Moral (1982), and Karnal (1983).

"Hindi siya isang bagay na isinulat ko lang. Isang bagay siya na naranasan ko. Binuhay ko. Ikinabuhay ko, nakabuhayan ko noon. So ganoon siya kahalaga sa akin."

Alongside other films he co-wrote, such as 'Himala' and 'Anak', Lee says that he wrote those films under the present landscape at that time. He never thought of 'Moral' to be fitting in the year 2023, and strongly states that he'd prefer to keep the film in its original script.

"Bakit ko palalabasin naisip ko? Bakit ko ire-revise siya ngayon? Pandaraya 'yun."

However, Lee is glad to see that his work is still relevant in today's age.

"Ang blessed-blessed ko naman na 'yung trabaho ko na ginawa ko 41, 42 years ago, eh, may silbi pa rin siya at nakaka-respond pa rin siya sa panahon ngayon in a woke manner, I think."

Numerous factors, such as machismo, discrimination, and insecurity, negatively impacted the social norms that were eventually instilled in women. Not only did this incite inequality, but it also created artificial limitations that led to unnecessary bias against women.

2. Should the movie be remade today how do you think will women be presented? Do you think the same struggles that the main characters faced are still representatives of what women today experience?
