Make a summary of the reading strategies that are proposed in the following Open resourse:

 We are going to develop skills about Reading. One way is referencing  the sources about the information that take us to do our homework for example. These sources could be: audio – visual materials or written sources.

Reading is an important activity because, any place we can find a newspaper, a magazine, a ad, some advertisements.

We, the university students read about something depending our career so we have some sources of information such as: Academic journal, Academic book, newspapers and magazines, reference material, specialist organizations’ websites.

The search of information in the different kinds of sources depends of the structure which it is organized. So we should know like the academic texts are organized thus we can find the necessary information easily in them. For instance the words of the academic dictionaries are ordered in alphabetical order or the books are organized by a structure like this: Introduction, paragraph, paragraph, paragraph, conclusion.

Reading the appropriate text is very important for understanding them and to do it a efficient and effective way.

The academic and specialist texts can be many different to the books that we usually read. Here are the challenges because we should learn to read these texts, so we must be to able to apply some strategies that help us to understand their structure.

Weshould be active readers therefore we will apply these steps:

Skimming the text: It is a quick way of we can know what the text is about. Read quickly the reading especially the titles, headings, subheadings, the first sentence of one paragraph are ways that help us to recognize a topic. 

Recalling your background knowledge about its topic: We should remember information about our topic.

Scanning for specific information. This consists in looking for specific information in a text, for example a specific date or amounts.

In-depth reading to find the key points.  If we want know all about the text should read the full text and identify the key points and highlight them.

Making sense of texts containing difficult words:  when we are presented words that don´t know we must be to able of give a sense according the context in which is this word.

Take notes about the text that we read and which already we highlight is useful because it is a practical way of remember something important and so we do not spent time to reviewing it.

These are the different types of notes that we can make: 

-          Adding short notes in the margins of highlighted texts

-          Making notes in you notebook

Organize all our notes about the information that we study can result very useful for different questions or problems that appear us.  

Exist some ways for doing it:

 

-          Organising information into subtopics

-          Using a mind map

-          Using a table.
