Summer always associated with some bright colours, but people who live in the dorm have their own experience in it. Dasha’s summer colour was yellow because of the sun which burned her room out every sunset the whole summer. The sunsets were the most memorable in her summer.

Daria visited a hometown, but only just for a week. Daria keeps in her mind her favourite summer smell - the smell of home, of the hometown. When you live in Moscow, it’s so nice to get home, to breathe deeper and relax. So that’s why it’s so hard for Daria to leave from home - to say goodbye to mom and dad, it’s heartbreaking process for her.

By the way, the time was not easy for Daria - she got a very interesting, but complicated internship. So she felt a lot of responsibility, and it made her nervous. But after the internship she got a chance to relax - a trip to Crimea with her family. The days she calls her favourite, the happiest and the laziest - she was lying under the sun, tanning and eating wonderful southern fruits. She reminds about awesome and cheap Mojito from Crimea with pleasure. Daria relaxed a lot - she also tried not to read some hard literature after the study program, so she spent her time with magazines and online issues. The relaxing summer saved her potential to start the new uni year, I guess

She works and works and works... But will she have time for herself? This job ate her up, but she really grew. She did her best to achieve her goals. "Camera, motor! You're on air" — and so every day. Today she is a star of Tver television. Yes, she really gained invaluable experience but… did she get the emotions that she expected to receive? She comes home tired, turns on a song by Diana Arbenina and cries, because in pursuit of a career she forgets about herself. Every day she continues to be disappointed in people and doesn’t understand why she feels so much pain about the evil and ingratitude she receives. She really deserves more. And she knows that.
She works and works and works. And so she meets a person who illuminates her world. She inspires her not to give up. She becomes unbreakable, begins to believe in herself, because this woman is always by her side — the one that was able to achieve everything that she once dreamed of as a teenager in such a short time.
This summer wanted to break her. And she might break. She might leave herself alone in this hole and het drowned in work. Without strength, emotions and support. But she found the strength to see the light in this darkness and overcome her breakdown. Now she has a dream job. She is a real journalist with armor in her soul and support from colleagues and mother, who was there in spite of everything. She's happy. Even after this crisis.

Everybody associates summer with positive moments of freedom. Almost every person spends much time on fresh air and doesn’t think about problems at all. Her summer was really different from the above. She suffered a great emotional stress in July and it was really hard to overcome it for a long time. After that her mother was afraid to get sick with COVID-19 and she had to stay home for 2 months. But good things happen: in August she went to Kaliningrad with her friends and met the best sunset she’d ever seen in her life. This trip was a recovery for her - she forgot about her miseries and got positive emotions that covered them.

Sofia

Lera's summer smells like flowers. Despite the sad days (they happen at some point without your desire), she found a job that she really likes. Moreover, she's found her person. And I'm talking abot her lady-boss, can you imagine? Good surprises still exist!

I've mentioned the smell of flowers because Lera works in a flower shop. She discovered organizational skills thanks to this job (as manager and SMM-manager). And her boss - a thirty-year-old lady who had cancer - became her soulmate.

But summer is not just about work, you know? Lera's spent a few days with her parents in St. Petersburg when they moved there. And she was happy (except for the day when Lera had to return to Moscow, of course). She didn't ask her family to go to the airport with her. She just took her luggage and left alone - in this case you do not need to break your heart with all these "goodbyes" before departure. This is the strongest and most reasonable desicion am delighted. Lera, I admire you.

Dasha

Practice also helped Nastya not to waste her time. After spending days within the four walls of the hospital, Nastya got a memorable trip to Kaliningrad.

Summer merged with other seasons and did not really stand out because of work. When the third year in university is ahead, it's time to think about the career with might and main and this is what Ilya did.

The colour of his summer was mint green. Ilya worked in the election campaign and this colour was the main one there. The work slightly suppressed emotions, Ilya felt sad most of the days because he had to do some work instead of other people and was quite tired. The summer was brightened up only by the song by Childish Gambino, which constantly sounded in the headphones on the way to work.

Endless weekdays were also diluted with a small trip to Vladimir. Ilya went there with his girlfriend and felt really happy during this vacation. The city opened for him from unusual sides and he learned a lot of facts about it. There was no lazy days because it’s impossible when you always have to think about work issues. The happiest days were the ones when colleagues did their job effectively and Ilya could focus on his tasks. Working in a new place paid off — Ilya met several interesting people and now they are his friends.

Summer working has its pros and cons, but Ilya definitely has no regrets about the investments he made in his career. Despite the fact that the summer was not so bright, it was still remembered in many small moments.

by Nastya F.

He admits, that can’t name, where he liked to work a lot, because both places were really beneficial in terms of journalistic practice...And not only journalistic: making a report from the festival, Sergey first time of the life visited such event and really enjoyed it.

2.THE SMELL OF THIS SUMMER

“Summer smells like apples”, -Sergey says. If this is the same for you, your summer was most likely similar to the summer of Polina. She had a great time while spending her holidays in the places she likes with the people she loves. At the first glance at her face you understand how important it is to stay positive even in the times of social difficulties and illnesses - when you see the beautiful face shining with smile, you calm down and understand that your life is going on not in the worst way... Untorunately, I had too little time to understand the character of Polina for 100%, but I guess she is a person who you can rely on.

3 things to have done in summer to be happy in autumn

Do you usually spend your summer productively or prefer to rest as much as you can? Well, even though Anna describes her summer'21 as a mediocre one, she has managed to do both: work and have fun. Here is what she did to come to the faculty happy and content today.
Firstly, studying. Nobody will be surprised if they hear that summer starts on June 1, but the exams do not finish in May. As a student at the best university in Russia, Anna wanted to stay a good student and keep her high marks this semester as well, despite the summer had already started. Books, textbooks, notes and, finally, exams: online and offline. Obviously, she passed everything with flying colours. However, the end of the sophomore year means more things to be done before having the long-awaited vacation.
Secondly, the internship. Or, in the case of Anna, two of them. When you fly from one city to another and notice a magazine in front of you, who do you think writes them? Now you know - university students. At least Anna did it while practising in the press agency of Sheremetyevo Airport. Besides that, she also prepared texts for Aeroexpress, which may sound like an ordinary job but in reality, was the first proper internship that Anna had and enjoyed. However, finishing journalistic practice in Sheremetyevo Airport was not enough, thus, Anna got into the English room of Russia Today. Having written news in English, she got a job offer from RT and now is looking for the schedule at the faculty to be settled, so she can accept the offer and start working as a real journalist.
Thirdly, and eventually, resting. Anna went to Turkey, where she had an amazing opportunity to get tanned and meet a sunrise in Cappadocia. Of course, Anna did not forget to take a photo with the famous balloons in the background and changed her VK profile picture.
Now we can meet Anna saying that her summer was not the best but read the story again. She has good knowledge about Russian journalism, as well as work-related experience and joyful mood brought from the trip.

By Karina

How to spend your time wisely as an exchange student abroad?

Karina spent six months – including half of the summer – studying in Seoul, and I’m sharing some tips on how to get the most of studying abroad as an exchange student based on her story.

1. Don’t make studying your priority
The first mistake Karina had made was even before she arrived in Korea. Once she saw a list of the courses she could take, Karina got greedy and chose too many. And most of them were in Korean, the language she barely knew. Quite a few nights Karina had to sacrifice to catch up on studying. Little did she know that the exchange students usually take not more than 4 classes so that they can have spare time to stroll the city, make some friends and travel the country. That’s the first reason everyone wants to study abroad, right?

2. Get involved in volunteering
Every person has a story to tell. Karina knows it as no one else. She spent the first half of the summer volunteering at the English-language cafe. Koreans went there to practice their English. Karina was the only non-native volunteer but it was never an obstacle. Sometimes she didn’t even notice how the time flew by and spent hours talking to strangers. The object of the conversation typically depended on the person she was conversating with: some of the chats were a British “small talk” about food and weather, the other times people opened up to her about their passions and the darkest secrets. The experience helped Karina practice the language, meet new people and learn more about the cultural differences.

3. Go to parties… but don’t get too hooked
As soon as the day went on into the night, Karina usually went partying to the Korean clubs. It’s okay if you’ve never quite enjoyed parties in your homecountry. Neither did Karina. But you have to try it abroad. Parties helped Karina come out of her shell and meet new people. Actually her exchange student status made her as courageous as ever. Would she ever come to a stranger at a party in Russia and randomly start talking to them? Absolutely no. Would she do that in Korea? Hell yes! But don’t drink too much alcohol at a party. You might be get expelled for that and deported into your homecountry.

By Anna
