First Rita pointed out what is important when applying and evaluating a future Erasmus project on our own.
Then we discussed what it meant to be a global citizen. To become a citizen one has to naturalize - what a metaphorical term! We had to find examples of how to think globally but act locally. The issue that came up was food left-overs. Everyone of us had already made drastic experiences with that bad habit and the laws preventing a responsible and sustainable use of left-overs. To find creative global solutions wil truly enhance global citizenship.
In the afternoon I strolled around town, sat down here and there watching the hustle and bustle around me and talking to random people. The first one was a homeless man begging for money. He claimed his father was German which was really funny because he was pitch-black. He said he didn't have a place to stay, very little to eat - sometimes nothing - and no hope. He said he was still lucky not to live in a war zone and smiled at me.
Then I talked to a Rastafarian artist selling his art on the beach. He explained that humanity started in Africa therefore everybody was African! Now that made both of us smile big!
I remembered him when I listened to a gwoka group performing by the square infront of the church.
What a wonderful day!

Everyone can do their part to help, no matter how small.
Today we enjoyed very good local food and thus supported the region.

Today was a very big day!
At school we had the topic of being a global citizen - which is probably the most important topic when it comes to our Erasmus work.
Examples like how to deal with the problem of wasting food or the issue of (unnecessary) packaging as well as the politics and rules around those were discussed. It once more became obvious that we have to take baby steps first - act locally, think globally.
After school some of the class went on a whale and dolphin watch tour to Bouillante.
It was awesome! We saw a few different schools of dolphins, each of them consisting of 50-200 animals.
Especially the last group we saw was unreal. Dolphins jumping in front of a rainbow - how good can it get?!
I am very grateful for such a wonderful day!

What a bless entering a class room like ours (or Ritas) 😀 Today I learned more about which key words to use to achieve the best possible results. I also refreshed my knowledge considering the eight key competences.

After school we drove across Guadaloupe to meet the skipper, Eric. He taught us how to behave on a boat and how to respect the animals living in the area. We ended our evening with an amazing dinner full of locally produced ingredients

I like the discussion about the rubbish. I think, that everybody of us try to find a good way handle the rubbish and all of us think in about the same direction, but a global changing is very difficult to do. I think that the phrase „think global – act local“ – works here. But it’s a long way to go…

After that we had a great day, whatching dolphins. We have seen so many, some were jumping out of the water, some just swimming around the boat… but unfortunately I got seasick – so I have learnt: To experience something really beautiful – sometimes there is a stony way…

At last we had a great dinner… Maarit – thank’s for findling this place…

It made me do a little audit in my head about my school and how my subject- English- is widely connected with this topic.
I have done a lot of international work so far in different projects, both with my students and also professional training, which I consider very crucial part of my profesdional life and daily pedagogical work.
I will definitely imply many of the discussed ideas and I find this course material very useful because it contains great ideas.
Also, I liked the big audit form that Rita provided and it allows to analyze many aspects of the school work. I will do it back home and ask also my colleagues to contribute and analyze their work.
Very much enjoyed these thoughts and material!

Day 5. International work and why it is important. 🌎
-examples and discussion about how to be a global citizen in our everyday life
- how to be more aware and how to build knowledge about this
-How to do this with students, how to get them involved
-what we can do at school and what the students can do?
-how to start to plan school international project and about application process
-good information what kind of terms and language to use. This was all new for me and hopefully useful.
- I found it a good idea that we could start a aid project in our school direct to another country to help. But it is important to ask what the parther in aid really needs. I have seen this in Africa too many times that aid projects are planned abroad but they have forgotton to ask locals what they really need. This makes people passive.

Being a global citizen means that one needs to take responsibility for how to manage the earth's resources. When i visit other countries, I often think about how to save the earth's resources. How to help other citizens to recycle. That companies move production to other countries to be able to find cheap labor and get away from laws. A clear example is within conflict and peace, when trying to overcome young gangs. The politicians talk about more policemen while the young people talk about food for the day. We really need to examine what our students, teachers, school, citizens, municipality need. Therefore, today I act like a global citizen when i bought local drinks in a reused plastic bottle. I have also cleaned the beach from plastic. Everyone can contribute something.

We are all taking part in an international meeting of teachers coming from different European countries. Whereas a few of you have already travelled to far away countries like the USA or Newzealand, it's the first time for me to have left the European continent. An amazing trip, once in a lifetime!! I had lots of doubts wether to go on this unusual trip or not. And the reason for this is that my carbon footprint has grown largely with the flights I needed to take to travel to Guadeloupe. I feel quite bad about that because I contributed to the emission of CO2. On Friday when we talked about being global citizens and when the aspects of waste and pollution were discussed I would have liked to asked you all, how you feel about having travelled here. Aren't we kind of trapped? We would like to internationalize our classrooms, however if we take part in courses abroad or when we take students with us to other countries, this will mean we contribute to the CO2 amount produced. Aren't we then kind of ignoring the climate change? It definitely is a global topic that connects us all, all human beings in the world. How can we travel, meet each other, go on trips together and NOT affect our planet Earth?
I love travelling, and I do love my time here, at the same time, however, I feel there's something wrong about it. I'm somehow lost - as a global citizen... What about you?

Day 5

“Think globally, Act globally”

Daniel´s idea that food waste that is thrown away should be used in many ways to benefit different communities would be

a perfect theme for an Erasmus+ project.

Rita´s lesson was related to reaching a global action we have to take many first steps. It is not possible for us to fight

from the beginning those things that need to change on our planet but we can achieve them through projects. So, we need to talk in schools about these matters as a fundamental way to achieve a change at a global level. It is true that Erasmus+ projects should serve to promote these changes.

Recently the Spanish Agency Erasmus+ (SEPIE) has appointed

me as an Erasmus+ ambassador and with today´s class I have visualised some of the proposals and actions that I will be taking in the coming months.

Today´s class has been a great inspiration!!!!
