The culture in this room is very relaxed. The teacher does not get upset at the students for not completing assignments. It is an understanding environment. The teacher demonstrates that it is a safe environment for the students to express themselves. Also that they have their own voice and can have an opinion on things.

1. One student would not complete a hand out, the teacher was understanding that it probably would not get completed, the student was not scolded for it. He did end up completing some of it. Plus it was a concept he already knew.

2. One student loved walking into the sensory area of the room. Instead of the teacher getting after him and making him go back to his lesson she allowed him to explore a little before redirecting his attention back, then offering him that time again after his work. This way to reinforce his creativity.

3. One student who needed a wheelchair did not have one. So the teacher was able to get one for the student to use in the classroom. The mother of the child was overjoyed. This is one example of how it is an understanding class setting.

The teacher allows natural consequences. She also gives rewards to students who are following instructions. She gives great feedback to her students.

1. One student was displaying a lot of attention seeking behaviors. She was in the bathroom rubbing soap all over her face. We all ignored the behavior. She ended up with a little in her eye. She quickly realized that was not a good idea and cleaned up. The fact that we did not give into her taught her that she will only be rewarded for good choices.

2. One student was doing a great job listening quietly on the rug to a story. He was pulled aside by an aid and given 10 minutes of free time. This reinforced his good behavior and taught him if you display good behaviors then rewards come with them.

3. Lastly, the teacher gives great positive feedback to the kids and their parents. For the kids that teaches them that they are doing well and are able to accomplish things. Also for the parents it is nice to see that the teacher has some nice things to say about your child, and if the parent is happy the student is happy to come back.
