Oil spills and plastic waste thrown into the ocean have a disastrous affect on the marine life. Plastic does not deteriorate and is eaten by unsuspecting animals, most of which die. Oil coats the animals interior as well as their body, sometimes suffocating them. They fight commercial fishing and try to establish laws against it. Right now Oceana has protected 1.2 million square miles of the ocean with many species living there.
