Stevie Wonder got popular at a young age. He started learning to play instruments when he was a small child. He got his first record deal at age 11, when he signed with Berry Gordy at Motown. By age 13, he scored his first major hit, with "Fingertips". Already, not many teenagers get the approval of the rest of the world to score a hit song. Not only this, he plays the harmonica while singing the song. Not many people have gotten very popular because of their music at this young of an age. The only few that comes to mind are Michael Jackson and Justin Beiber.

In 1968, Stevie pushed for creative control but Motown was against it. Stevie and Motown fought over creative control for some time, but Stevie wanted to express his thoughts even more. In the late 1960's you can notice how Stevie is breaking away from the traditional Motown, aspects and incorporating his own feel into his music. He would later branch out and explore new sounds and new styles. You can hear some of this change in songs like "I Don't Know Why". I feel songs like this show the direction Stevie wanted to take from the start was more than the clean cut traditional Motown sound. He combined different instruments and faster piano playing into his songs to add a unique sound. Overall, Stevie Wonder was probably the most talented child prodigy of our lifetime, and is one of the most talented artists of our lifetime.
